Gum recession can leave exposed dentine, but sometimes that’s only one part of the challenge.

This patient also had uneven incisal edges, misalignment and a missing upper left canine.

Using the Envision Protocol, I used composite veneers across the front six teeth to disguise the recession, improve the alignment and proportions, and create the illusion of a canine.

✨Natural Smile Makeover ✨

Been doing a lot more composite crowns lately!

Why?

Because when I’m bonding the teeth around them, composite often gives me the best possible match, and when placed well, they last a lot longer than you might think.

The biggest challenge with this case was bringing everything together when we had so many different colours and discolourations to work with.

Using the Envision Protocol, I removed the existing ceramic crown and old bonding from the adjacent teeth, blocked out the underlying discolouration, and rebuilt the front six teeth freehand with composite bonding.

The Envision Protocol: a simple, reproducible system for freehand bonding that I use for every case.

From simple edge bonding to cases like this, it’s the same process every time.

Here I carried out seven composite veneers and replaced an old ceramic crown with a freehand composite crown.

For me, the biggest benefit of working freehand is control. You’re not relying on someone else and you can truly create the outcome that both you and the patient want.

The case might get more complex, but the process doesn’t!

Five composite veneers and one composite bridge - all completed freehand in one appointment using the Envision Protocol.

This patient wanted a smile that still looked natural, but refined and tidier.

Using direct composite, we were able to improve the shape, proportions and overall balance of the smile whilst keeping treatment minimally invasive - no lab-work or temporaries required.

Reshaping and brightening with six composite veneers.

This case was about more than just whitening the teeth. We wanted to improve the shapes and proportions, balance the smile and create something natural that suited the patient. The central incisors appeared too narrow and the lateral incisors had been shaped too wide with the old bonding.

For dentists, this is where the small details matter: proportions, line angles, edge position, texture and polish all make a huge difference to the final result.

If your teeth feel crowded, uneven or worn, this is often fixable.

Ideally, we would straighten the teeth first to get the best long-term result. However in some cases, where that’s not possible or not the preferred route, composite bonding can be used to improve the overall appearance.

In this case, we used six composite veneers to straighten the edges, improve the shape and mask areas of recession, all in one visit.

Another smile complete for the big day.

With our Sync Smiles package, Invisalign was used first to pull the teeth back to reduce the flaring and spacing, followed by whitening to lift the overall colour.

To finish, the upper right lateral incisor crown was replaced with a freehand composite crown after gum contouring (shown here immediately post-op), and seven composite veneers were added to the surrounding teeth to improve the shape, proportions and overall balance of the smile.

All completed using the Envision Protocol.
