💙💚
Well... this wasn't supposed to happen yet. 😭💙💚
Last year I jokingly said to my children's dad "If you could just take a year off work, I could set something up."
Because in my head, creating an education provision was something I could maybe do 'one day'. When my own children needed less from me. When I had more time. When somebody else could take care of them while I worked. When life was somehow less chaotic and all of the barriers had magically disappeared.
Basically, under circumstances that were probably never actually going to exist. 😂
But somewhere along the way, that pipe dream became something Michelle and I started talking about seriously. Then planning. Then finding a space. Then filling that space. Then recruiting a team who completely understood what we were trying to create.
And now..
'Neurothentic Education' is officially LIVE.
This has grown out of everything we've learned over the years – from our own children, the hundreds of children and families we've supported, our Forest School sessions, our own lived experience and each other.
We've done it with our own children at home with us every day. These aren't children who suddenly became conveniently independent because their parents decided to be extra busy either, they each have significant support needs of their own.
We've built it around chronic health conditions, executive dysfunction, demand avoidance, family life, appointments, SEND battles and all of the other things that don't disappear when you decide to run an organisation.
And perhaps that's exactly why Neurothentic Education needed to be created by people like us, we aren't looking at neurodivergent children and families from the outside.
We know that capacity fluctuates. We know that learning doesn't only happen between 9 and 3. We know that a child can be incredibly capable and still need huge amounts of support. We know that sometimes getting through the door *is* the achievement that day.
And we know that education doesn't need to look like school to be valuable.
Our first Neurothentic Education sessions will be 'STEM Your Way', with separate Primary and Secondary age groups and a maximum of six learners per session.
We have taster sessions running next week with block booking encouraged for sessions after then.
We'll be exploring science, technology, engineering and maths through hands-on, experiential learning; building, experimenting, investigating, creating and problem solving, with space for interests and curiosity to take us in directions that aren't necessarily planned.
Small groups. Neuroaffirming support. Regulation before learning. No expectation that six neurodivergent children will learn the same thing, in the same way, at exactly the same time.
Open to home educated young people, those accessing EOTIS, flexi-schooling and anyone looking for a different way to access learning. No EHCP or diagnosis required.
Bookings are officially OPEN.

I don't think either of us expected to be writing this post quite so soon, but maybe waiting until all of our own barriers disappeared was never going to be the answer.
Instead, we've built something around them.
And now we get to create an education provision that does the same for other neurodivergent children and young people.
Neurothentic Education. It's actually happening. 😭💙💚
