The Bionics Bus to Debut at Royal Cornwall Show 2026

We are so excited - the Bionics Bus will be at the Royal Cornwall Show between 4-6 June 2026 (more information about the show HERE).

After our successful launch at the Classic Motor Show of 2024 and our return visit there in 2025, this year we will be debuting at the Royal Cornwall Show. Its obviously the first time for us but we look forward to interacting with as many people as we can.

We hope to be showcasing the Bus development as well as having some exciting activities on show - we will have more than one, and hope to have activities that are exciting and of interest to our wider audience.

So - more to come before then - but "watch this space" in the meantime - we are preparing hard for a fantastic show!

Hello world - introducing the Bionics Bus
The Bionics Bus has been talked about, sketched about and thought about for a long time by the Managing Director Christopher - he wanted to create something that was both exciting and inspiring to the end-users - school children and people of all-ages - as well as being a challenge and positive experience for those putting the Pod together and manning it.

The idea to have a 'space-age' styled converted van has sat and fermented for a while in his head - and now, in the last few months of 2019, the first steps to get this programme of activity together have started to take shape.

We have seriously thought about the name, the shape, the format, the content and - of course - the cost! Plans are underway and this website is part of the bigger picture of getting the message "out there". There is still lots to do and we will slowly do all that is necessary to make the Bus a reality.

To do this we need help, we need financial backers, we need people with ideas and suggestions and we need to get the word out there. To this we ask that if you have stumbled across this site please share far and wide and help us get that much closer to being able to bring Science Engineering Engineering and Technology to as many places as we can, exciting everyone on the way and making all our futures a better place.

Introducing the Bionics Bus: Promoting Digital Healthcare and STEM Outreach

The Bionics Bus is a groundbreaking innovation set to transform the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) to younger minds, as well as the promotion and delivery of digital healthcare to those that lack access but that really need it.

It is the brainchild of Professor Christopher James (pictured) and is supported by the EPSRC funded Bionics+ Research Network Plus.

The Bus mission is to excite, it is a converted van, jam-packed with digital healthcare technology, that goes to various venues, and youngsters learn by doing, interacting with the advanced technology and with the young investigators in the Bus. Equally, the Bionics Bus promotes the use of digital healthcare to communities and individuals that might not have ready access to technology or with relevant care providers.

The Bus also promotes and facilitates digital healthcare research. Christopher has plans to involve our own engineering undergraduates through developing group projects to design and build the Bus's power and communications infrastructures.
It was formally launched on 8th November 2024 at the Classic Motor Show, at the NEC, in Birmingham, where over 70,000 people passed through the doors. The Bionics Bus was displayed on a stand and the plans for the project were discussed with many hundreds of potential end-users, whose opinions were collated through a short questionnaire for further analysis and publication.

Our Services

The Bus visits schools, school fairs, science festivals, public events, etc. Schools can compete with projects to run on the Bus. We are looking to setup a week-long Summer School for school children too. The Bus is maintained and developed by our Undergraduates, who’s outputs are assessed as part of their degree programme. Theyl undertake project planning, designing, building and testing, as well as interacting/ co-designing with school-student and the public. They also crew the Bus, this exposes them to public speaking and develops their PR as well as marketing skills.
