Confidence rarely arrives all at once.

Most of the patterns we carry have been reinforced over years. It makes sense that they don't disappear after one good day, one conversation, or one attempt.

Growth is often much quieter than we expect.

It's speaking up once when you normally wouldn't.
Trying again after a setback.
Noticing that something feels slightly easier than it did before.

These moments can seem small, but they matter.

Progress is often happening long before it feels dramatic.

What small sign of progress have you overlooked recently?

One difficult day doesn't undo months of effort.

One old reaction doesn't cancel out everything you've learned.

When we're frustrated, it's easy to focus on the moments that feel familiar and forget how much has already changed.

Progress is rarely a straight line. Most people revisit old patterns from time to time.

The important question isn't whether it happened.

It's whether you notice it sooner, recover faster, or respond differently than you did before.

We often assume confidence comes from pushing harder.

And sometimes you can force your way through discomfort for a while. You can override hesitation, ignore the resistance, and keep moving.

But force is difficult to sustain.

Real confidence tends to grow when things feel manageable enough to practise, repeat, and learn from. When there's less pressure, it's often easier to keep showing up.

Confidence isn't usually built through constant self-push.

It's built through experiences that show you that you can handle what's in front of you.

What have you been trying to force that might benefit from a gentler approach?

Today is my daughters birthday (and my mums!) and every birthday is a challenge. So birthdays are extremely low demand so that she can do more than just survive. Even more so when plans go haywire.

So..we set up our own painting session. I was game.

No clue what I was going to do but I love playing with colours.

So here I am..creating, painting my clothes, painting over things when my.self doubt crept in.

My daughters art work was amazing, she tried something new and rocked it. My piece...well, lets just say it will grow on me.

What I did love most of all was the brain quietness, the feeling of being chilled out.

So..if you ever doubt doing something like this..my advice..just try it!! You never know...

Nobody feels confident all the time.

Not experts. Not leaders. Not people who seem to have it all together.

Confidence changes from day to day, situation to situation. Some days feel easier than others.

That fluctuation isn't a sign that you're going backwards. It's part of being human.

Rather than asking yourself whether you feel confident, it can be more useful to ask whether you're willing to take the next step anyway.

Sometimes what looks like a confidence problem is actually avoidance.

Putting things off, over-preparing, staying quiet, or waiting until you're "ready" can easily be mistaken for a lack of confidence. From the outside, it can look like hesitation. From the inside, it often feels like self-protection.

That doesn't mean you're incapable. It doesn't mean you lack potential.

The question isn't always "How do I become more confident?"

Sometimes it's "What feels difficult enough that I'm avoiding it?"

If this resonates, take a moment to notice where you might be waiting for confidence before taking action.

A week in the life of a hypnotherapist...

Or more specifically, this hypnotherapist.

A new roller skate bag found its way into my life.

Several hours spent sifting dirt and stones because apparently that's what passes for relaxation these days.

A new crystal hanging in the window creating tiny rainbows around the room.

Three-yearly resuscitation training completed. Thankfully not something I use often, but an important skill to keep current alongside clinical practice.

Somewhere in between there were client sessions, planning, admin, and an ongoing battle with a water bottle I've been trying not to replace for the last month and a half. It isn't living up to expectations, but I'm a creature of habit and apparently committed to giving it every possible chance.

I also discovered that while counting during a session, my brain had temporarily misplaced the number 11.

Not forgotten how to count completely.

Just... skipped 11.

It came back eventually.

Most weeks aren't made up of dramatic events. They're usually a collection of work, hobbies, curious rabbit holes, stubborn water bottles and whatever your brain decides to do on a given day.

This week was no exception.

Returning to familiar material isn't a sign you're stuck.

The content may be the same, but you aren't.

Each time you come back to it, you're bringing new experiences, different challenges, and a fresh perspective.

That's why something that didn't mean much the first time can suddenly feel important later on.

It's not because the material changed. It's because you did.

"What does it feel like while listening?"

For me, it feels effortless.

I don't have to concentrate hard or try to make anything happen. I simply listen.

Sometimes I'm fully focused on every word.
Other times I drift in and out of attention.

There are moments when I can hear everything that's being said, and moments when I realise I've stopped consciously paying attention altogether.

What's interesting is that the experience doesn't feel like "doing" very much, yet something is still happening.

Even when it feels as though you're just listening, your mind is actively processing, responding, and engaging with the experience.

That's one of the reasons people are often surprised by hypnosis.

It can feel simple.
It can feel natural.
It can feel easy.

And that's perfectly okay.

Everyone's experience is a little different, but it rarely looks like what people imagine from films or stage shows.

What would you expect it to feel like?
