🚨PLEASE SHARE: 🚨

“I'm struggling to find a suitable donor, particularly due to the ongoing challenge of finding donors from South Asian communities.”

63-year-old Trushar urgently needs your help. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and urgently needs a stem cell transplant to give him another chance at life. There is currently no match for him on the stem cell register.

"The word cancer conjures up many nightmares and my journey in dealing with this has been an emotional rollercoaster.”

Following consultations with a Haemotologist, and after numerous blood tests, Trushar was diagnosed with warm haemolytic anaemia. He managed to live with this condition with regular blood transfusions and taking a range of medication.

Towards the end of 2025, his health deteriorated and a bone marrow biopsy showed his condition had progressed to Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and has now progressed to acute myeloid leukaemia.

“This diagnosis was very difficult to come to terms with, particularly as the only curative solution is a stem cell transplant."

Trushar is now asking people with South Asian heritage, particularly those from the Lohana community he is part of, to join the stem cell register.

“I'm asking everyone, particularly those in the South Asian community to consider joining the stem cell register to help me, and others in a similar situation, find a suitable donor to improve our chances of leading a normal, healthy life in the future.”

❤️🏆 We’re incredibly proud of our Gemma! 🏆❤️

Tomorrow evening, our Community Engagement Manager, Gemma Elsmore, will be attending Local Hero Awards, where she has been nominated for the Charity Champion Award! 🌟

Gemma’s journey with Race Against Blood Cancer began in 2017, when she became a volunteer to help find a stem cell match for her friend’s son, Khaleel, who sadly lost his life to blood cancer.

What started as a personal mission grew into a passion. Gemma went on to work part-time alongside her full-time job before becoming our full-time Community Engagement Manager.

Since then, she has helped thousands of people join the stem cell register, offering hope to families affected by blood cancer. Seven of those people have gone on to donate their stem cells and help save lives. ❤️

Gemma’s dedication and compassion make a real difference, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything she has achieved.

🖤❤️ Black History Month | Raising Awareness & Saving Lives ❤️🖤

On Monday and Tuesday, Race Against Blood Cancer was delighted to attend the Black History Month events at both campuses of Sandwell College, raising awareness of sickle cell disease and blood cancer.

We educated students about blood cancer, how stem cell transplants can be a potentially lifesaving treatment for some patients, including those with sickle cell disease, and why having a diverse stem cell donor register is so important. 🧬❤️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to speak with us and sign up as a potential stem cell donor. Your decision could one day help save a life! 🙌

❤️ Working Together to Make a Difference! ❤️

Last Saturday, we were delighted to team up with Shropshire Prostate Cancer Support Group at their prostate cancer screening event at Shropshire Golf Centre.

It was fantastic to work alongside such a dedicated group, supporting the important work they do to raise awareness of prostate cancer and help men access vital screening and support. 💙

The event also gave us a brilliant opportunity to showcase the work of Race Against Blood Cancer and speak to men about the importance of joining the stem cell donor register. 🩸

Every conversation helps raise awareness, and every new potential donor could be the match that saves someone’s life. With many blood cancer patients still waiting for their lifesaving match, we want to encourage more people to consider becoming stem cell donors.

A huge thank you to Shropshire Prostate Cancer Support Group for welcoming us and for the incredible work they do in our community. It was a pleasure to work together, and we look forward to collaborating again in the new year! ❤️
