ADENOMYOSIS AND FIBROIDS
These two conditions can occur together; they are different conditions but occur in the same uterus.
• Adenomyosis is when tissue, like the uterine lining, grows into the muscle wall of the uterus.
• Fibroids on non-cancerous growths that develop in the muscle and connective tissue of the uterus.
These conditions can both affect the uterus, some symptoms may overlap, including heavy prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic discomfort/ pressure or painful periods.
Having one of these conditions does not cause the other, but when symptoms are present, appropriate evaluation is needed to help to determine what may be contributing to your symptoms, this is where Ultrasound can help.
You don’t need a doctor’s referral to access a medical ultrasound scan; self-referral is simple and an easy process for you to take charge and make the first step independently, and to minimise the time and process towards appropriate care.
By having a diagnostic ultrasound report, it allows clarity, giving either Peace of Mind, or the ability to direct you on the right care pathway, through to your GP for discussion and management, and/ or onwards to a clinical specialist if required.
