SHE BELIEVED IN DREAMS

The word "legend" is used an awful lot these days, to the point that the meaning and context can be diluted.

Yet last night, the world lost the true epitomy of a legend - Dolly Parton.

From "rags to rhinestones" as many are quoting, Dolly is one of the most prolific stories of inspiration. Of being a real life example of who you can be, regardless of where you come from, regardless of the expectations and belief of others.

As we mourn the loss of a lady who had such a positive impact across the globe, we must also keep on spreading her message of self-belief, of not being scared to dream our dreams, of never limiting ourselves!

Sleep tight Dolly 💙

OVER 150,000!

According to recent studies, that is how many children and young people are currently in the care system in the UK.

This includes under Special Guardianship agreements, foster care and residential homes.

Here are a few facts for you (*please note these could be triggering for some*):

- Parental drug/alchohol use is identified as main reason for removal in 39% of cases

- For children under the age of 1, this rises to over 60%

- Children and young people who are, or have been, in the care system are 4 times more likely to partake in alcohol and/or substance abuse than their peers

- Higher rates of trauma, mental health challenges, and multiple placement moves strongly correlate with increased vulnerability to substance and alchol misuse

But here is the most concerning fact, in my opinion,

Two young people A WEEK who have recently left care are dying. This includes by drug/alcohol misuse and taking their own life.

A tag line I heard today really resonated - THE CARE SYSTEM NEEDS TO CARE.

I agree!

But then I think as a society we ALL have to care too. Let's stop turning a blindeye. Let's stop being naivè. Let's work together to break the stigma around these topics!

If you work with children or young people in the care system, or those who will be leaving soon, and would like to have a chat about how Yes You Can can work with you, get in touch today.

THE DAY HAS COME!

Firstly, I genuinely want to thank you for your patience as I've been navigating Yes You Can's identity.

It's been a turbulent time of chronic self doubt, Imposter Syndrome, general uncertainty and A LOT of soul searching!

However, after a light bulb moment, and a really good catch up with someone I trust to both give good advice AND be totally honest to discuss my potential idea,

THE YES YOU CAN COMMUNITY PROJECT

can finally be shared!

Goal - to set up a non-prescriptive, needs focused service, as well as working in partnership with local community services, with a focus on empowering children and young people to believe, achieve and thrive!

Target audience - Children and young people who struggle with social, emotional and behavioural issues, who may be struggling with school attendance and anti-social behaviour, predominately linked to issues with addiction and domestic abuse, either familial and/or their own.

How? - Although this is still the very early stage of launch, services will operate through direct and detached youth work, peer groups, 1:1 sessions and workshops. There will also be options to work with parents/carers and the family unit, as well as be an advocate between home and education.

Bigger picture - for those children and young people to use their own experiences and life lessons to initially become peer mentors, with a clear pathway to paid work with The Yes You Can Community Project in the future!

But perhaps the biggest question - why Claire?

Because every child and young person deserves a chance.

Deserves to be listened to.

Deserves the opportunity to learn in their own way how their mindset and lifestyle choices can impact their future, and that of others.

Deserves to have no judgement of where they came from, who they may know and what has happened previously.

We are often victims of our own self-fulfilling prophecy, simply because we may know no different or have self-limiting beliefs.

I want to show every child and young person, you can be whoever you want to be.

Yes, You Can!

Want to discuss this further? Please - get in touch!

Together, we are stronger!

Good luck to all our GCSE students picking up their results today! 🍀

It's always a bittersweet day if I'm honest.

I LOVE to celebrate successes and hard work. Getting the grades needed after two years of hard work 🎉

Yet, it's the reality that there are those who may not be picking up the required grades. Those who may not have been able to sit their exams, for a multitude of reasons.

It's a simple fact that exams, and the standard education system, are not one size fits all. It is so important to remember that not everyone can learn and showcase their success in the same ways.

From a society that is so keen to stress that you can be whoever you want to be, it frustrates me that so much pressure is put on a series of numbers.

Whatever you receive today, whether you say your exams or not, remember one thing -

Passion, dedication, and resilience can take you much further than any grade!

There is always another way.

Claire x

THE NEXT CHAPTER IS ABOUT TO BE WRITTEN!

A massive Congratulation's 🎉 to all you young people who have got the results you needed for your next stage. Whether that is University, employment, travelling, or something else, I wish you all the very best for your future!

There is an important message I want to say too though - those results, whether good or not what was expected/needed, they do not define you.

You are enough and worthy of that life you imagine/dream of, simply as you are.

Whether your first path is the right one for you, or you end up at a few dead ends and diversions (very much my experience!) in the words of Journey - 🎶 Don't Stop Believing 🎶

DAILY THOUGHT

Brambles,

From the same bush,

exposed to the same elements,

yet at completely different stages of their life cycle.

Just a reminder that everyone grows at their own, unique pace. Never compare your progress or experiences to anyone elses :)
