It's sprout season!! 😁🙌 Whether you love or hate them, these bad boys have an abundance of health benefits to help see you through the party season:

👉 They, along with other cruciferous veggies, play a large role in supporting the liver.

👉 They're low in calories and high in fibre, helping to stabalise your blood sugar, and therfore energy, levels throughout the day.

👉 They play an important part in regulating hormones and mood.

👉 They're a high source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Specifically Vitamin K; essential for bone health and Vitamin C; essential for a strong immune system.

With temperatures dropping and winter officially setting in it's important that we nurture our immune system so that it can return the favour when it comes to warding off those pesky winter bugs 🦠

Try embedding the below into your daily routine to help keep your immune system on side:

🍏 EAT THE RAINBOW: fill your plate with as many different coloured foods as possible to help maximise exposure to a large number of protective vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

🍏 LOOK AFTER YOUR GUT: 70% of the immune system is found in the gut so it's important to ensure it's functioning at its best. Gut protective foods include sauerkraut, kimchi, miso and yoghurt.

🍏 MINIMISE INFLAMMATORY TRIGGERS: these weeken the immune system and our ability to fight off illness. Examples include alcohol, caffeine, sugar, pollution and stress.

🍏 STAY HYDRATED: the lymphatic system, responsible for transporting many of our immune cells around the body, relies largely on water, gravity and exercise to facilitate distribution. Do make sure you're getting your 2L in each day!

🍏 SLEEP: sleep grants the body, immune system included, the opportunity to rest and repair. Furthermore, many immune cells are produced while we sleep so long-term deprivation will have a detrimental effect on the ability to fight off colds and infections. Adults should aim for 7hrs each night.

If Covid-19 taught us anything it’s that looking after our health should be a top priority. Since the immune system is at the forefront of fighting disease it’s a good idea to keep it at its prime. Now that we're officially into Autumn, with shorter days and less sunlight, it's important to consider our Vitamin D levels.

Sunlight converts Vit D into its active form enabling it to play a role in over 300 recations in the body. It largely contributes to bone health, robust immunity, hormone regulation and improved mental well-being (specifically anxiety and depression). It's therefore integral that we keep levels in check! 🌞

Symptoms of deficiency include:
- fatigue and exhaustion
- muscle cramping
- back ache
- frequent infections (particularly colds and flu)
- mood swings
- depression

We can get Vit D from foods such as fatty fish (think salmon, anchovies, mackerel, sardines) and egg but it's difficult to meet requirements from food alone.🐠

It's estimated that roughly 3/4 of the UK public are Vit D deficient so if you're experiencing any of the above symptoms or are concerned about a potential deficiency it may be worth speaking to a Nutritionist, or other healthcare professional, who will be able to guide you on supplement options. Your GP will be able to test your levels for you.

In summer months it only takes 20 mins of sunlight exposure to meet the daily requirement so do try and get yourself outside when you can! For those of us surrounded hy cloud 11/12ths of the year, it's the perfect excuse for an exotic holiday - happy booking! 🌞🏝🌻

Eat the rainbow 🌈

You've probably heard it said a million times but variety really is key!

Each colour represents a different nutrient which will benefit the body in a different way. These nutrients also work in synergy to compliment and amplify each other's effects, so mix it up as much and as often as you can! 🎉

🍅 RED (tomatoes, cherries, chili powder): high in lycopene which is excellent for heart health.

🫐 PURPLE (grapes, berries, beetroot): high in anthocyanins which are anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and blood-sugar stabilisers.

🍊 ORANGE (sweet potato, squash, tumeric): high in beta carotene which is excellent for both skin and lung health.

🥬 GREEN (kale, green beans, spinach): high in chlorophyll which is an immune-boosting, anti-fungal nutrient which also strongly supports the liver in detoxification.
