OVT4 Strabismus and Amblyopia

Optometric Assessment & Treatment

Speaker: Dr Robin Lewis OD FCOVD

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 25th-27th October 2021

London Heathrow Marriott Hotel, Bath Road, Hayes, UB3 5AN

This course will cover the practice, theory, and criteria for success, when treating a patient with strabismus or amblyopia.

Dr Robin Lewis received his Doctorate of Optometry at Pacific University in Oregon in 1981. He is a past President of OEPF (The Optometric Extension Program Foundation) and a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. He has been a member of BABO since 2006.

Dr Lewis, who was a strabismic with learning difficulties, was a successful vision therapy patient. That experience led to his interest in the visual process and to his career in Optometry.

He is the managing partner of a multi-doctor practice in Chandler, Arizona where he has been in private practice since 1981, and he has been a curriculum instructor for the Baltimore Academy of Behavioural Optometry, and then OEPF, for the last 20 years.

Practical instruction of vision therapy techniques that integrate the theory with practice will be the heart of this course.

Lens prescribing will be discussed in detail and Dr Lewis will use case histories from his own clinic to illustrate the important principles for effective lens prescribing.

The format of this seminar has been reviewed with greater emphasis on therapy and will be of interest to those that have taken the course before as well as those new to the subject.

Experienced participants will gain strong insights that allow them to meet the needs of their patients more effectively.

This course is designed for the experienced BABO member who has studied OVT1, OVT2 & OVT3 and who has practised Optometric Vision Therapy with at least 50 patients.

You need to be a current paying member to take the course.

Those with less experience or studies should find the course fascinating, and useful, but should not expect to introduce this approach into their practice without considerable further studies in Behavioural Optometric Vision Therapy.

GOC CET points will be applied for.

BABO points 21 BABO points are available for full course attendance.

Course costs:

Members £947

Vision Therapists £797

Repeating optometrists £797

Bath Road, Heathrow Airport, Hayes, UB3 5AN

For optometrists and therapists who have attended the OVT1 and OVT2 courses

Lead Speaker: Owen Leigh BSc, FCOptom, FBABO

Completion of the course will allow you to join as a BABO accredited member, meaning that you have met the competency requirements for us to refer patients to you for assessment and treatment and to add you to the referral list on our website.

The course will be a mix of didactic content, covering the basic theories of learning difficulties, the impact of visual problems on learning, and testing, vision therapy and practice management. It has been re-formatted to fit in with the guidelines for CET points. This makes it ideal for those who have taken OVT3 in the past to revisit the topics covered.

A mandatory presentation by the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Association will take place on Friday September 17th at 6.00 pm in preparation for the course.

Comprehensive course notes and a pen drive with additional information will be provided within the course fee. The fee also includes a copy of the textbook ‘Optometric Management of learning related vision disorders’ by Scheiman and Rouse (List price £95).
