In this clip from the latest Dr Louise Newson Podcast, Dr Louise Newson is joined by nurse, educator and Balance Hormone Health US expert, Jill Chmielewski to discuss why conversations about hormones after cancer should focus on informed choice, not fear.

At Newson Clinic, we regularly see women who have had breast cancer with concerns about their future health, including osteoporosis, heart disease and dementia and want to explore hormone treatments but have often struggled to find support before coming to see us.

As Jill explains, women live in their own bodies. They deserve access to information, evidence-based guidance and the opportunity to make informed decisions about their care and treatment.

That approach echoes how we work at Newson Clinic. Our doctors take time to understand each patient's symptoms, medical history and priorities, supporting them to make the choices that are right for them.

At Newson Clinic, hormone treatments are prescribed, reviewed and refined by specialist clinicians, with a very important clear measure in mind: how much better women feel.

Our real-world patient data shows significant improvements in symptom severity scores after three months of treatment with body identical hormones: the gold standard treatment for fluctuating and declining hormones.

This includes estradiol, progesterone and testosterone: hormones your body recognises, absorbs and responds to as its own.

Mood, sleep, energy, concentration and libido can all be affected by fluctuating and declining hormones. With the right hormone treatments, at the right dose, reviewed over time, these symptoms can improve significantly.

“You're too young” is something many women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) hear over and over before receiving a diagnosis.

In this video, Newson Clinic’s Dr Sumi Rampling reflects on one of her patient's experiences and explains why POI is so often missed.

POI affects around 1 in 100 women under 40. Yet when hormone deficiency isn't recognised and treated, it can affect not only quality of life but also your future health.

Newson Clinic research found FSH levels can fluctuate significantly in women being assessed for POI. Diagnosis needs to be about more than a single blood test result*. Symptoms, medical history and blood results should always be considered together – which is always how we approach things at Newson Clinic.

Fluctuating and declining hormones can play a significant role in migraines, particularly when symptoms worsen or change during times of hormonal fluctuation and decline.

In this clip from this week’s Dr Louise Newson Podcast, Dr Newson speaks to Dr Sader, a physician trained in neurology and interventional pain management, about why migraine is so personal and why understanding your triggers takes time.

We see many women whose migraines worsen during times of hormonal change. That's why we always look at the full picture - your symptoms, medical history, hormones and the impact migraines are having on your daily life.

Take a moment for yourself with Dr Jo Sewell.

Symptoms such as anxiety, poor sleep, palpitations and brain fog can be connected to fluctuating and declining hormones. For some women, the way they breathe can change too.

Last week, Newson Clinic’s Dr Jo Sewell led a breathwork session, exploring how changes in our hormones can affect the way women breathe.

In this clip, Dr Jo guides you through a gentle breathing exercise to help you notice your breath, practise healthier breathing patterns and simply take a moment for yourself.

Breathwork is a great healthy habit to weave into your routine alongside optimising your hormones.

Watch the clip, try the exercise and save it for later.

Did you know, for many women experiencing fluctuating and declining hormones, mood symptoms aren’t always a mental health problem? They can often be a hormonal one.

And when that's properly treated with body identical hormones, the change can be profound.

Like this piece of Newson Research demonstrates, the right combination of hormone treatment and testosterone can bring back better mood, clearer thinking and energy so many women think they lose for good.

Patient-led consultations – the approach we always take a Newson Clinic – challenges a model where women have too often been left out of decisions about their own symptoms and treatment.

In this clip from this week’s Dr Louise Newson Podcast, Dr Louise and Dr Mary Atkinson reflect on what patient-led consultations should look like: listening properly, understanding what matters to the patient and deciding next steps together.

Patient advocacy, choice and shared decision making are crucial to effective treatment plans, especially when symptoms are complex, personal or have been dismissed time and time again.

At Newson Clinic, our consultations are always patient-led. Because feeling heard is not an extra, it’s central to effective treatment.

One of the biggest misunderstandings about hormone treatment is that all types carry the same risks. But not all hormone treatments are the same.

Much of the concern comes from older synthetic hormones, which are structurally different to the hormones naturally produced by the body and carry different risks and side effects.

Body-identical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones your body naturally makes and offer much greater benefits than risks. That’s why body-identical hormone treatment forms the basis of the approach we use at Newson Clinic.

When you come to us, treatment is tailored to your symptoms, medical history and the way your body responds to hormones.

At 77, Paula has been taking hormone treatment for over 30 years. And she has absolutely no plans to stop.

Her story is one we think every woman deserves to hear - because the conversation about hormone treatment doesn't have an expiry date. Neither does your right to feel well.

In this clip from this week's Dr Louise Newson Podcast, Dr Louise and Paula discuss how personal hormone treatments really are - and the importance of ongoing care and treatment optimisation.

As our clinicians explain in individualised consultations, the way your body absorbs and metabolises hormones can change over time - your skin type, age and lifestyle all play a role. That's why regular reviews matter - to make sure what you're taking is still working as well as it possibly can for you.

If you're wondering whether your hormone treatment is still working as well as it could be, that question deserves a proper answer.
