For some women, surgical removal of the ovaries may be offered as treatment for conditions such as PMDD or endometriosis. But this type of surgery causes an abrupt loss of hormones, which can leave women vulnerable to symptoms and longer-term health risks without appropriate treatment.

Newson Research found that 95.2% of 126 women who had their ovaries removed did not receive hormone treatments afterwards. None received testosterone or had a documented discussion about its benefits.*

Hormone treatments should be part of the conversation – both before and after surgery.

At Newson Clinic, our specialist clinicians see lots of women considering surgery to first explore the option of hormone treatment - and those who have experienced surgical menopause who need hormone treatment.

What do irregular periods, acne, thinning hair, low energy and mood, and metabolic changes have in common? More than you might think…

PCOS/PMOS can show up in so many different ways, and the hormonal connection is frequently missed, especially when symptoms are looked at in isolation.

At Newson Clinic, we connect your symptoms rather than treating them in isolation, building a fuller picture of your hormone health to guide your individualised treatment.

This week on the Dr Louise Newson podcat, Dr Louise speaks with Natalie Sykes, founder of PMDD Neurodivergence Alliance, to discuss PMDD and the impact of hormonal changes on mental health.

Natalie shares her experience of severe cyclical symptoms, a bipolar diagnosis, pregnancy and postnatal mental health and why it took decades to recognise the role her hormones were playing.

In this clip, Louise and Natalie discuss her experience with PMDD, and how even when recognising cyclical patterns, no one ever brought up hormones.

At Newson Clinic, we join the dots between hormones and mental health. By looking at your symptoms alongside your cycle and wider hormonal history, our clinicians can build a clearer picture of what’s going on and discuss the treatment that’s right for you.

At Newson Clinic, follow-up appointments allow us to see what has actually happened since you started treatment.

Which symptoms disappeared? What improved? What’s still affecting you? Could absorption be an issue? Does the formulation still suit you? Those details matter.

Our clinicians use your symptoms, medical history, treatment response and, where appropriate, blood results to decide whether anything needs to change.

Hormone treatment should never be one-size-fits-all – it should be optimised to suit your individual needs.

After having her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed due to a strong family history of ovarian cancer, Lucy experienced significant hormonal symptoms and started hormone treatment through her GP.

But when she wanted to discuss testosterone, she faced an 18-month wait to see a menopause specialist. After trying another independent provider who didn’t individualise treatment – nor did they provide conversations with specialists - Lucy came to Newson Clinic looking for a more individualised experience.

Hear what Lucy has to say about her experience of Newson Clinic and the difference finding the right treatment has made for her.

Women already face enough challenges when trying to access the right treatment. Language should never make that process more difficult.

Feeling comfortable during a medical appointment matters, especially when discussing symptoms that may be personal, complex or difficult to explain.

At Newson Clinic, we’re proud to have a diverse clinical team, with several clinicians able to deliver appointments in different languages.

This can help more women speak openly, ask questions with confidence and feel fully understood throughout their consultation.

Watch the video to meet some of our multilingual clinicians and hear the languages they speak.
