Your week may have finished. Your mind may not have.

Sometimes the work stops, the messages stop and the day becomes quieter, but internally everything is still moving.

Thoughts continue. The body remains tense. Attention keeps jumping ahead to what needs doing next.

Tonight, The Friday Stillness Gate offers a different way to finish the week.

For 45 minutes, we move away from doing and towards listening.

Through guided Daoist meditation, we explore the relationship between body, breath, mind and Qi, allowing unnecessary effort to soften and attention to become quieter and more settled.

You do not need to empty your mind.

You do not need previous meditation experience.

And there is no particular state you are expected to achieve.

The practice is simply to sit, notice what is present, and become more familiar with the quieter dimensions of your own experience.

This connects closely with our current Apex theme, From Reactivity to Responsiveness.

☯️ Access the Stillness Gate Portal:
https://stillnessgate.apextaichi.com/join

Before we can respond differently, we first need enough space to recognise what is actually happening.

Come for the stillness. Leave with a little more room inside the moment.

Two Ways to Practise This Thursday ☯️

Two sessions today at Swansea Wellbeing Centre, each with a different emphasis but the same aim: helping you feel more settled, connected and confident in your movement.

4:30pm–5:30pm
The Way of Stillness and Flow
Women-only session

A gentler practice using Tai Chi and Qigong to ease unnecessary tension, improve balance and help the body feel more supported and settled.

7:00pm–8:00pm
Authentic Tai Chi: The Present Moment

A deeper exploration of Tai Chi principles through weight transfer, sinking, whole-body connection and learning how to stay organised while movement continually changes.

Both sessions are suitable for beginners.

£5 at the venue

You can book your place here:

If Thursday has already felt a bit too full, either session offers a useful hour to come back to the body and reset the pace.

☯️ Tuesday at Apex Tai Chi

From Reactivity to Responsiveness

Feeling tense, mentally busy or as though the body is working harder than it needs to?

This afternoon’s Awaken Your Qi: Authentic Qigong session explores how Qigong can help us notice unnecessary effort and respond with more ease, rather than simply adding more tension.

Through gentle movement, opening and closing, breath, guiding and gathering, we will work with the traditional Qigong principles of regulating the body, breath and mind.

The intention is not to force relaxation.

It is to become more aware of how the body is responding, soften what is unnecessary, and allow movement to become more coordinated and adaptable.

Bank Holiday Monday Tai Chi & Qigong:

A refreshing way to start the Bank Holiday Monday.

If the long weekend has left you feeling a little stiff, sluggish or mentally scattered, this morning’s practice offers an hour of energy restoration... to move, breathe and bring attention back into the body

Return to Centre: Restore Your Qi combines gentle Tai Chi and Qigong with grounding, opening and closing, weight transfer and whole-body movement.

This week we are beginning to explore From Reactivity to Responsiveness, noticing where the body adds unnecessary effort and learning how to move with a little more adaptability rather than tension.

No need to arrive feeling calm, flexible or particularly accomplished. The practice starts from where you are.

☯️ Friday at Apex Tai Chi

Move in the morning. Become still in the evening.

Today offers two contrasting ways to practise with Apex Tai Chi.

☯️ Morning: Friday Reset: Authentic Tai Chi

10:00 - 11:00 am

📍 Forge Fach Community Resource Centre, Clydach
£5 at the venue

This morning we continue exploring this week’s intention:
Steady in the Midst of Change.

Through sinking, weight transfer, turning and coordinated movement, we will explore how the body can become clearer about where support is before changing direction.

The emphasis is not on forcing stability. It is on finding enough support for movement to become more organised, connected and responsive.

Booking is encouraged and appreciated. New participants are guided towards booking as the normal route. Payment is £5 at the venue.

☯️ Evening: The Friday Stillness Gate

7:00 - 7:45 pm - Online

In the evening, the emphasis changes completely.

Rather than organising movement, we turn inward through Daoist meditation, exploring the relationship between body, breath, mind and Qi.

This is a space to sit, become quieter, notice what is present and explore the transition from movement into stillness.

No previous meditation experience is needed.

The Friday Stillness Gate is donation-based, with no fixed fee.

☯️ Thursday at Apex Tai Chi
Steady in the Midst of Change

This week we are exploring a simple Tai Chi principle:

Every turn begins by sinking.

But the two Thursday classes will approach that idea in very different ways.

☯️ 4:30–5:30 pm

The Way of Stillness and Flow
Women only

This session will explore the theme through a quieter, more inward practice.

We will work with settling the weight, softening unnecessary effort and becoming more aware of the moment before movement begins.

The emphasis is:

Can the body feel supported before it needs to respond?

Expect a gentler exploration of sinking, breathing, opening and closing, with more attention to the felt quality of the body and the transition between stillness and movement.

☯️ 7:00–8:00 pm

Authentic Tai Chi: The Present Moment

The evening session will take the same weekly principle into a more technical Tai Chi exploration.

Here the focus will be on turning from the centre.

We will use weight transfer, spiralling and selected Tai Chi movements to feel how the body gathers support before changing direction.

The emphasis is:

Can the turn come from the centre rather than from the arms or momentum?

This session will explore how sinking creates the conditions for clearer rotation, more connected movement and a more organised transition from one direction to the next.

Today with Dr Jar: Authentic Tai Chi ☯️

A reminder that today’s Tuesday session is running this afternoon at the Swansea Wellbeing Centre.

Tuesday, 25 August 2026
2:45pm - 4:00pm
Swansea Wellbeing Centre
£5 at the venue

Today’s session will continue developing a more Qigong-focused practice, drawing on authentic traditional principles of breathing, whole-body movement, release, balance and internal connection.

Tai Chi remains an important thread within the class, but the emphasis is increasingly on exploring Qigong more deeply and experiencing how these practices can help us feel steadier, more mobile and more connected.

Beginners are very welcome.

Booking is encouraged and appreciated:
https://www.apextaichi.com/public-sessions

Come as you are. Wear comfortable clothing, bring some water, and give yourself a little space in the week to move, breathe and reset.

Calm, but not passive.

Where attention goes, Qi follows.

Dr Jar ☯️
