A yogi of mine recently asked:
“What do you do to relax, we do this, what do you do?”, it took a while for me to answer… 💭
The correct answer would seem to be, well this too of course, I have a strict home practice!! But my reaction and reality was the opposite…
I said “nothing”,
“Can you do that” - she replied
I said “yes, easy”
When I need to unwind, de-stress, and relax, I literally reset. I click the pause button! I sit, I drink coffee, I think, I have the ability to sit still and just soak in life!
I barely read, the telly is off, I’m awake, and I don’t feel the need to walk/run/exercise, I literally STOP.
I do find a great sense of release with yoga, walking, meditation, and deep breathing, but that on a daily, and combined with beautiful company is enough for me to fill my cup. When I get the chance I self practice and it always feels great but my practice often needs more power!
This has really stuck with me, for someone who’s on the go everyday all day, pushing the pause button is my therapy.
I love silence, I love natural sounds, I love stillness, maybe more so now with my Parkinson’s diagnosis, it isn’t very often my body/mind is still.
This pause comes in many different forms, I’m sometimes standing, sitting, lying down.
In these moments it sparks inspiration and soon after is when I’m usually on here writing, as I am now. In these moments I curate my lesson plans. It opens up mind space that is hard to find usually.
Some call it mindfulness
I call it peace of mind 🕊️🧘🏼♀️
