Wellbeing solutions backed by neuroscience in the form of hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and NLP. At Wellbeing In Mind Hypnotherapy (Essex), I combine hypnosis with solution-focused therapy and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) to facilitate positive change in a relatively short period of time.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, neuroscience-based approach that combines talking therapy with clinical hypnosis. It is a safe, evidence-based treatment with minimal side effects. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) provides a way for us to understand why we do what we do and how our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and capabilities combine to drive our behaviour. Both modalities offer powerful ways to effect change in a relatively short space of time. I work by blending talking therapy with hypnosis in a gentle and supportive way that is outcome-focused, meaning you don’t have to talk about your problems. Instead, I help you focus on solutions that will move you forwards to a brighter future. Areas covered:
Anxiety, stress, depression, IBS, OCD, panic attacks, phobias, trauma, confidence and self-esteem, pain management, weight management, performance improvement, smoking/vaping cessation, and more. Please be aware that hypnotherapy is effective, however results may vary and success is not guaranteed. A degree of willpower and commitment is required, particularly for addictions, weight management and smoking/vaping cessation.

Small actions can make a big difference to stress levels.

When we're stressed, we often look for one big solution. In reality, recovery often comes from small consistent habits.

Helpful strategies include:
✓ Regular physical activity
✓ Good quality sleep
✓ Time outdoors
✓ Reducing information overload
✓ Connecting with supportive people
✓ Practising relaxation techniques
✓ Focusing on what is going well

Research shows that exercise can reduce stress hormones and increase mood-enhancing chemicals such as endorphins.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy also helps people understand how the brain responds to stress whilst encouraging positive neural pathways associated with calm, confidence and resilience.

Being stressed does NOT mean you're weak. One of the most harmful myths about stress is that we should simply "get on with it." But stress is not a character flaw. It’s a natural response from a brain that believes it needs to stay alert and protect you.

In fact, many highly capable, caring, successful people experience periods of significant stress. The key isn't avoiding stress entirely. It's learning how to manage it, recover from it and prevent it from taking over your life.

You deserve the same compassion you would offer someone else.

Has stress become your normal? Many people become so used to stress that they stop noticing how much it is affecting them.

Try asking yourself:
• Do I struggle to switch off?
• Is my sleep affected?
• Do small things feel bigger than they should?
• Am I more irritable than usual?
• Is my concentration suffering?
• Do I feel mentally exhausted?
• Am I struggling to make even simple decisions?

These can be signs that your stress bucket is becoming full. When stress accumulates over time, the brain becomes more focused on threats and less able to access clear thinking and perspective.

Awareness is not about criticising yourself. It's about recognising when you need support, recovery or a change of pace.

Stress doesn't look the same for everyone. One person might become anxious and restless. Another may withdraw and become quiet. Some people struggle with sleep, while others become short-tempered or emotional.

Stress can show up as:
• Difficulty concentrating
• Feeling overwhelmed
• Increased worrying
• Irritability
• Low motivation
• Physical tension
• Digestive issues
• Poor sleep

Research suggests that around 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.

The important thing to remember is that there is no "right" way to experience stress. Your response is unique to you.

Stress isn't always the enemy – it’s your brain's natural response to perceived challenges, demands or threats. In short bursts, stress can help us focus, react quickly and get things done. The problem comes when stress stays switched on for too long.

When your brain believes you're constantly under pressure, it prioritises survival over creativity, problem-solving, sleep and emotional wellbeing. This can leave you feeling overwhelmed, irritable, exhausted or stuck.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we often talk about how stress affects the "thinking brain" (the prefrontal cortex) and allows the more primitive survival parts of the brain to take over.

The good news?

Your brain is designed to recover. Understanding stress is the first step towards managing it more effectively.

Many people believe being hard on themselves will make them more motivated. In reality, constant self-criticism often increases stress and lowers confidence.

The brain responds far better to encouragement, safety and self-compassion than it does to shame.

Imagine speaking to yourself the way you would speak to someone you truly care about. Would you be kinder? More patient? More understanding?

Motivation grows much more sustainably when people feel supported rather than criticised.

This weekend, try replacing self-judgement with:
✨ “I’m doing my best”
✨ “Progress matters more than perfection”
✨ “I can take things one step at a time”

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps clients quieten negative thought patterns and build greater confidence, calm and emotional resilience.

You deserve kindness from yourself too.

One of the most powerful questions we can ask ourselves is:
👉 “What do I want life to look like moving forward?”

When we spend all our time replaying problems, the brain often stays stuck in stress and negativity. But when we begin imagining solutions and positive future outcomes, the brain starts activating different neural networks linked to motivation, hope and possibility.

This is one reason Solution Focused Hypnotherapy concentrates on:
✨ Future goals
✨ Strengths
✨ Progress
✨ Positive change

You are more than your current struggles.

Today, try focusing for just a few minutes on:
• What is already going well
• What you would like more of
• One thing that could improve tomorrow

Small shifts in focus can create meaningful change over time.

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to feel motivated when you’re stressed or anxious? There’s a reason for that.

When stress levels rise, the brain prioritises survival rather than creativity, confidence or problem-solving. This can leave people feeling:
• Unmotivated
• Overwhelmed
• Mentally exhausted
• Stuck in negative thinking

This isn’t laziness. It’s the brain doing its best to protect you.

One simple way to help calm the nervous system today:
🌿 Slow your breathing
🌿 Step outside for fresh air
🌿 Focus on one thing at a time
🌿 Give yourself permission to rest

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps reduce stress and anxiety by calming the mind and supporting more positive neural activity. A calmer brain is far more capable of motivation, clarity and change.

The brain is always listening to the stories we tell ourselves.

If your inner dialogue sounds like:
❌ “I can’t cope”
❌ “Nothing ever changes”
❌ “I always fail”
…your brain begins treating those thoughts as familiar pathways.

The good news? The brain is adaptable – this is called neuroplasticity. And the more we practise positive, realistic and solution-focused thinking, the stronger those neural pathways become.

Try this simple exercise today. When you catch yourself using negative self-talk, pause and ask:
👉 “What would I rather believe instead?”

Even small changes in language can help shift emotional states and perspective.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps reinforce healthier thinking patterns while calming the nervous system, making positive change feel more natural and achievable.

Your thoughts are powerful – choose the ones that support you.

Motivation doesn’t usually arrive in one giant burst of energy. More often, it grows from taking one small step at a time.

Your brain loves progress. Every small action you complete releases chemicals such as dopamine, helping you feel more capable and motivated to continue. This is why tiny wins matter so much.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed or lacking confidence lately, try this:
✨ Choose ONE small thing you can achieve today
✨ Make it manageable
✨ Celebrate completing it

Small steps calm the nervous system and help move the brain away from stress mode and into a more positive, solution-focused state.

In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we work with the brain rather than against it – helping you build momentum, confidence and healthier thinking patterns. You don’t need to fix everything at once – you just need to begin.
