Lemon balm has long been associated with joy, calm, and the heart 🌿🍋
In European folklore, it was often planted near homes and monastery gardens to bring harmony, protection, and abundance
Its botanical name, Melissa, comes from the Greek word for “bee”, and the herb was traditionally believed to attract bees, symbolising vitality, sweetness, and community
In magical folklore, lemon balm was associated with:
✨ healing
✨ emotional balance
✨ love and friendship
✨ calming the spirit
It was sometimes carried or placed around the home to lift melancholy, restore energy, and create a peaceful atmosphere
Traditionally, lemon balm has also been linked to the Sun 🌞
reflecting its uplifting, warming, and heart-opening nature
A herb connected to softness rather than intensity
bringing calm without heaviness
One of the simplest ways to work with lemon balm is as a fresh tea, infused honey, syrup, or added to baths and evening rituals 🌿
Sometimes herbalism begins with something as simple as slowing down and making a cup of tea ✨Check my recent blog about Lemon Balm and my Calmness Tea
