Simon Evans, UHNM Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are currently experiencing extremely high demand for all our services. Both Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford have been under severe and sustained pressure for the last week , but we have seen even greater demands in the last three days.

“We have therefore taken the decision to declare a critical incident. This helps us to take additional measures to maintain safe services for our patients and those in the community waiting for an ambulance.

“Locally, we are working with our NHS and local authority partners to ensure that people who need hospital and emergency care can get treatment quickly and to identify any additional support that allows us to discharge patients who do not require acute hospital care.

“As anticipated, the pressure is greatest in our emergency departments, which are facing continued challenges as patients cannot be admitted to beds promptly.

Dr Matthew Lewis, UHNM Medical Director said: “During this time the emergency departments will continue to see the sickest patients first, which means, for some patients, there may be much longer delays than usual.

“We continue to ask the public to help us by only using A&E in a serious or life threatening emergency. When we’re discharging patients, we ask that their friends or loved ones pick them up from hospital as soon as possible and have everything they need at home.

“I would like to thank our staff for their on-going efforts during this extremely challenging period and the public for their understanding and co-operation.”

Do you live far away from your loved one with dementia? 📍

Caring from a distance can be challenging, as it may be harder to pop in regularly or respond to issues quickly.

This cervical cancer awareness week we want to remind you how crucial it is to get your cervical cancer screening. Here’s why every woman should prioritise this vital test:

**1. **Early Detection Saves Lives**: Cervical cancer is preventable and treatable when caught early. Regular screenings can identify abnormal changes before they develop into cancer.

**2. **Quick and Simple**: The screening, also known as a smear test, is quick and usually painless. It’s a small step with a big impact on your health.

**3. **NHS Guidelines**: Women aged 25-64 should have regular screenings. The NHS recommends a smear test every 3 years for those aged 25-49 and every 5 years for those aged 50-64.

**4. **Peace of Mind**: Taking proactive steps for your health brings peace of mind for you and your loved ones.

**Act Now!** Schedule your cervical cancer screening with one of our lovely nurses and encourage the women in your life to do the same. Together, we can take control of our health. 💖

As some of you may be aware, Staffordshire Community Hub is having to relocate from its existing premises on Bellasis Street very soon. We were originally meant to leave the premises on the 31st May but managed to negotiate a 3-week extension until the 21st June. The reasons for having to leave the premises is that the landlord is planning on selling the building we currently use.
We are working hard to try to find a suitable alternative premises to operate from, including a venue that will be suitable for our food bank operations and the other projects run by the hub.

So far, we are yet to find a suitable property. Given that it may take time for us to find an alternative premises, Rising Brook larder Methodist Church that currently supports our "food larder project" has agreed to provide pre-packed emergency parcels as a temporary measure from Tuesdays-Thursdays 12pm-1pm. We will be making updates to the data collection system and to our website in due course, so that referrals can be made to the Methodist Church instead of Bellasis Street once we leave the premises.

If you have any questions over the future of Stafford Foodbank, please do not hesitate in contacting us via [email protected]. Thanks so much for your patience and for all those who partner with us. We hope to have some good news to tell you all soon....
Best wishes

It’s the start of World Continence Week.

As a person gets older, it can be common for people to have more difficulties using the toilet, particularly if they have dementia.

Accidents and incontinence can cause problems, especially as a person’s condition progresses. This can be upsetting for the person with dementia and difficult when you’re supporting them.

Many people find it difficult to talk about these issues. However, support is available. With the right help and advice, incontinence and toilet problems can be managed or sometimes prevented.
