I took some new photos today of the truly wonderful Sunshine for Skin Whole Body Balm.

It’s wonderful because this whole body balm exists to help Hormonal skin that is feeling dry & tight, dull & lifeless glow again with its innate iridescence.

It does this by combining wild harvested Cupuaçu seed butter with its ability to hold up to 4 X its own weight in water helping the skin to retain moisture & increase its humidity together with the protective qualities of Shea butter, Pomegranate extract & the star of the show…. 1% Bakuchiol Sytenol A.

There are 2 types of Bakuchiol. The Expressed Oil & the purified extract. Both come from the Psoralea corylifolia plant but only one of these extracts has my approval & it’s the only one I’ll ever use in my formulas.

Sunshine for skin completely rescued my menopausal skin, now it feels silky soft, comforted & deeply nourished.

I chose to pour it into a light weight, forever recyclable metal pod for practical purposes. This Whole Body Butter Balm is a whopping 250g without the pod. This makes it light weight to ship & light weight to carry around too. It’s a skin saviour so I figured it’s purely practical.

I’ve kept the price practical too at just £75 for 250g this Balm has been created to give your skin everything it needs to do what it has evolved to do which is protect you, but our skin is not without its vulnerabilities and so it needs our protection too..

A studio moment of spontaneous joy 🌿

I was walking from the chiller back to my making table when I glanced down and these freshly made, just set balms stopped me in my tracks.

So fresh with the quiet magic of being handmade in their own secret tiny batch… these are the moments only I see.

I grabbed my phone and took this photo because this is what small-batch skincare really looks like behind the scenes.

No pro photographer. No design team. No polished studio set-up.

Just me and the deep pleasure & privilege of making nourishing skincare rituals, freshly made, just for you.

As a one-woman business, I do all my own photography, graphics, labels, formulating, making and packing and often times the most beautiful images are the ones that happen by accident, occasionally I get to snap it…

This casual moment captures the handmade love that goes into everything that I do… and not just me but all the artisans in the world, making magic happen day by day 🌿🌸🤸🏽‍♀️

As the maker, I find it very difficult to get the distance needed to talk/write about the products I make in a way that communicates what they truly are, what they do, without sounding too much … well.. like the maker.

After all, we are expected to advertise & promote our products from a sales perspective. Heart & Soul is a bit too fluffy. Passion is over rated. Truth is certainly not a requirement because Selling is the art of magnification. Magnifying the elements of a product that people want to see & will want to buy.

This is why, I am great at what I do.. Making. And not at all good at Selling.

But all this nonsense ceases to be important when you find your people, when you find your community.

It doesn’t matter if you only reach a tiny number of people, if the people who stop & read & see you - get you completely.

This is how I grow & keep going. 80% of all orders are repeat customers, a great many of whom have become my friends, my community.

I don’t run ads, I refuse to enrich Meta. I will never chase you around the internet with Pop Up Ads- it’s just not who I am.

I have been pondering this for several months & after a particularly busy day in the study making Shampoo Bars my hands finally through the gauntlet down & demanded change. So I have begun to transition the Shampoo Bars back to pouring into trays which means I will be hand cutting them again like I used to several years ago.

I’m excited because it will mean one big pour instead of 24 or 48 small pours & it also means I can begin playing more with colours & swirls again, something I have really missed.

This sample batch isn’t 100% perfect, I need a little bit of practice & the weights vary by 16g or so with the smallest weighing 130g & the largest weighing 146g but I am so happy to have finally made the decision to make this change. My work can be really heavy & all the lifting whilst giving me toned arms & biceps has begun to make my hands hurt due to the gradual hormonal shifts curtesy of the beloved menopause.

Whilst on the topic of improvements & changes, I am close to deciding to increase the number of Upcycled ingredients I use. Currently our Organic Raspberry, Pomegranate & Amaranth CO2 Extracts are all full circle/upcycled ingredients but I would like to use more UK grown upcycled ingredients in my recipes. I am also exploring other ideas too & I would absolutely LOVE to hear yours.

I’m only really learning the importance of Rest for the very first time now that I am 54 yrs old. As a busy, non stop Mother, Grandmother, Business owner & Artisan manufacturer, I love my life & I love my work (for the most part) but I can no longer ignore the rhythm of my own nature.

We call it the menopause but it’s so much more than simply the end of the something. It is a new beginning & an entirely brand new way of being & it takes time & energy to learn how to be in this changing body.

I want to honour this transition without feeling ashamed or guilty.

I want to nurture & nourish my body & my wellbeing without feeling like I’m failing my business & failing at life.

I see a lot of desperate exhaustion on social media, people trying to show up as their best selves, even when they feel depleted. I know! I have been that business owner, desperately trying to convince myself that I can do everything if I just push a little harder.

Not anymore 🌿🌸🙏

This is a small part of the story of our Cedar wood pods.

These have been a beloved part of the Natural Wisdom story since 2014.

Part of my belief that in daring to do some things differently we can make a positive difference, be an important part of the solution & a smaller part of the problem. By helping to change conventional beliefs perhaps we can help to bring about quiet realisations, awakenings, revolutions..

Our luxury Self care products don’t need to come wrapped & packaged in plastic, made in factories or destined for landfill. We can go back to a time when nature & natural was luxury, before harsh cheap products filled with artificial colours & fragrances were splashed all over our Televisions in expensive Ads.

No one has ever been able to improve the smells & colours of nature so they created a multi billion industry & £€$¥ ads to brain wash us into thinking they had.

While huge beauty industry corporations make millions from destroying your connection with nature by quietly changing how we identify with it.

The Organic Vanilla CO₂ extract has finally arrived after weeks of delay 🌿

This is the exact same premium Vanilla CO₂ I use in my own skincare products and solid perfumes.

Real organic vanilla extract is very precious & expensive — and for good reason. It takes around 18 kg of Vanilla beans to make just 1 kg of finished extract.

This is pure Vanilla planifolia CO₂ extract, with a massive 26% aromatic vanillin, giving it a potently rich creamy, resinous, beautifully rounded Bourbon vanilla aroma.

Why do I use wooden pods to hold my balms? When there are so many reasons not to.

Because for change to happen, we need to dare to do things differently not just as an act of rebellion, but as an act of love.

If you have ever held one of our Balm pods in the palm of your hand, you already know.

The sensuous curve of the pod with its soft warm & gentle strength & incredible feeling of luxurious abundance without any of the waste.

The freshly made Balm from sun ripened ingredients. All from the quiet abundance & sustainability of plants.

Not in plastic.. metal or glass.
But in wood that grew itself from deep in the Earth, under the sun & the moon & the rain.

There is something deeply soothing about this. Earthing, connecting our soul to the one soul that flows through all of life.

A moment of purity in a noisy world of waste.

This is why I still choose wooden pods.

Not because they are easy.

Because they are a rebellion of love in a world dominated by vast consumer markets, overconsumption & the pursuit of profits over all else…

A Rant Post - Reading through social media I am finding it harder to know with certainty what is truly handmade and what has simply been bought ready-made, rebottled, and beautifully branded & sold as handmade, which I confess, I find incredibly infuriating..

Because being a handmade business is incredibly hard, time intensive & expensive. Factory skincare is mass made, much cheaper & the profits are considerably more, especially when it’s sold as “premium, small batch & handmade” ..

Natural Wisdom has always & will always be intentionally handmade in small batches. I do it this way because my personal values restrict me from doing it any other way. I’m not saying that factory skincare is bad just that selling it as handmade is unethical & misleading.

I have always formulated my own products. Carefully choosing suppliers, testing & comparing all of our raw organic oils, butters, plant extracts, essential oils and botanicals. I make fresh, small batches in my studio, with care, experience, and deep respect for your precious skin and for our uniquely precious Earth.

There is a unique, vibrant energy to slow-made, fresh, artisan skincare that deserves to be defended, passionatly.
