Mental Health Week and the importance of being heard.

When you’re experiencing inner turmoil, it can feel like being swallowed by a black hole, pulled deeper and deeper into something heavy, isolating, and impossible to escape.

In those moments, it’s important to remember that you were never meant to carry it all alone. Pulling yourself back up every single time is exhausting, especially when you’ve been fighting battles in your own mind for longer than anyone else can see.

Although conversations around mental health have improved over the years, we are still only scratching the surface of what true understanding and support really looks like. This is why so many people stay silent. Why they avoid booking appointments, reaching out, self-referring, or opening up to employers, friends, or even family.

Because too often people fear being dismissed, misunderstood, judged, or treated like a problem to solve instead of a person to support.

But there are people who will listen.
People who genuinely care.
People who will sit beside you in the dark without rushing you to “fix” yourself.

There are people with lived experience, people who have struggled, healed, relapsed, grown, and kept going who understand the weight of simply trying to get through the day. And within that shared understanding, there is comfort, connection, and hope.

Healing does not always look like huge breakthroughs. Sometimes it looks like surviving the day. Asking for help. Sending the text. Turning up. Trying again.

Please don’t give up on yourself before giving someone the chance to remind you that you deserve support too.

Mental Health Awareness Week feels especially important to me this year. It’s something I’ve had my own personal journey with, so I truly understand how overwhelming things can feel at times and how much even a small moment of calm can help.

Because of that, I’m offering all sessions at £30 throughout the week, to hopefully make a little bit of support more accessible.

I offer:
✨ Reiki
✨ Indian Head Massage
✨ Sound Therapy

Each of these treatments is designed to gently support your mind and body, helping to ease anxiety, release built-up tension, improve sleep, and bring a sense of balance and calm.

If you’ve been feeling stressed, low, or just in need of a reset, you’re not alone — and you’re very welcome here 🤍

From on Threads:

“I’m neurodivergent and have a PhD in healthcare research.

Here are 13 unconventional ways to regulate your nervous system:

1. Rewatch familiar shows/movies instead of new ones. Predictability lowers cognitive load.

2. Shower in the dark.
It reduces sensory input and is one of the fastest ways to calm your overstimulated nervous system.

3. Eat one meal a day in absolute silence.
No phone. No podcast. No talking.
Digestion improves when attention isn’t split across inputs.

4. Sit with your back against a wall.
Physical support behind you reduces vigilance.
Many people calm faster than when sitting “upright”.

5. Walk slower than feels productive.
Speed signals urgency to your nervous system.
A deliberately slow 5–10 min walk often downshifts arousal without breathwork.

6. Use dim light earlier than you think.
Bright light keeps your brain alert.
Warm, low light in the late afternoon reduces sensory load without making you sleepy.

7. Stand barefoot on a hard surface for 60–120s.
Tile or wood increases sensory feedback and helps the body re-orient when you feel “floaty” or disconnected.

8. Face a wall or corner when overwhelmed.
Reducing visual complexity lowers cognitive demand.
Fewer stimuli = less threat processing.

9. Wear slightly heavier layers indoors.
Not compression — just weight.
Proprioceptive input helps many people feel more grounded and contained.

10. Humming on long exhales.
1–2 min is enough.
It naturally lengthens your exhale and calms your system more easily than silent breathing for many.

11. Cold water on wrists or face — not full cold exposure.
15–30s is plenty.
It interrupts stress loops without shocking your system.

12. Lie on your side instead of flat on your back.
For some nervous systems, a fully open chest feels unsafe.
Side-lying often calms breathing automatically.

13. Tidy one small, contained area.
One drawer. One surface.
Completion without overwhelm restores a sense of control.

Not all neurodivergence looks the same.

ND is a huge, heterogeneous category. There’s no single ND profile and no rules that fit everyone.

But research does show recurring patterns across many ND people especially around sensitivity to load, threat, pressure, and one-size-fits-all systems.

So if only few of these work to you, that’s normal. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you, it means your wiring is your own.
