Each did a completely different job. None could replace the others, and every one of them taught me something valuable.

Looking back, they also taught me an important lesson about coaching.

What started as a practical skill for my business became one of the most valuable lessons of my career.

Sometimes the interests that don't seem to fit your CV end up teaching you the most about yourself. Careers aren't always ladders. More often, they're jigsaws, and some pieces don't make sense until much later.

Can AI replace coaches, tutors, or therapists?

As AI becomes part of everyday life, more people are asking where technology ends and human support begins.

AI can explain, organise, and suggest ideas. But coaching, tutoring, and therapy involve something different: empathy, trust, accountability, judgement, and understanding the person behind the problem.

The future is unlikely to be AI *or* humans.

It is more likely to be AI supporting people, while humans continue doing what they do best: helping others grow, change, and move forward.

We all know the story: the tortoise wins, the hare loses because he got overconfident. 🐢

But that's not really the point of the fable.

The tortoise was never going to beat the hare on the hare's terms. Different conditions produce different outcomes, and what actually mattered was what the tortoise had to build, quietly, just to stay in the race at all.

Most workplaces are built for the hare: speed, quick thinking, performing under pressure. For anyone who thinks or works differently, especially neurodivergent people, that's not just uncomfortable. It's a mismatch between how the world is built and how they actually work.
