🌡️ Heatwave incoming. Here’s your baby sleep survival guide…
✨I’m Katie - a UK infant sleep coach for working mums, mum of two boys, and someone who has survived more than a few heatwaves with little ones over the past 8 years.
I’ve used every one of these strategies with my own boys, and I share them every summer with the hundreds of families I work with.
Here’s what actually helps protect sleep during a heatwave 👇
👕 Dress for the temp - 27°C+? Just a nappy. Check the chest, not the hands and feet.
🌀 Fan on, but point it at the wall - circulation, not cold direct blasts. Bonus white noise = sleep magic.
🛁 Warm bath an hour before bed - Core temp drops when they get out and signals sleep time.
🏡 Curtains closed during the day - open them again in the evening to let cooler air in.
🌡️ Get a room thermometer - stop guessing, start knowing. Aim for 16-20°C where possible.
⛱️ Ditch the pram cover - it traps heat fast. Use a parasol or raised shade so air can circulate freely underneath.
💧 Extra feeds = always okay - hydration first, always. Extra milk overnight or water if fully weaned on solids.
❄️ Portable air con? Place it in the hallway outside the room with door open. Can drop the temp by 3-5 degrees.
The heatwave is only a few days. You’ve got this - and so has your baby. 🤍
