๐ŸŒน GOOD MOOD โ€“ Need a hug? ๐Ÿ’•โœจ

Sometimes we donโ€™t need a complicated formula. Sometimes, one beautiful plant is enough.

My Good Mood formula is made simply with Rosa damascena โ€“ Damask Rose, a plant I particularly love for its gentle affinity with our emotional wellbeing.

๐ŸŒน Rose has traditionally been used to support:

emotional balance and relaxation

a calm, uplifted mood

the nervous system during periods of emotional tension

a sense of comfort when we feel overwhelmed or emotionally drained

There is something special about Rose. Its beautiful aroma, delicate nature and long history of use make it feel almost like a little herbal hug in a bottle. ๐Ÿ’—

And that is exactly why I called it:

GOOD MOOD
Need a hug? ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒน

Simple. Gentle. Just Rosa damascena โ€” with a little bit of magic. โœจ๐Ÿ’ž

๐ŸŒฟโœจ IMMUNE ELIXIR โ€“ HERBAL SUPPORT FOR COLD DAYS โœจ๐ŸŒฟ

A few of my friends have caught colds recently, so I went straight to my herbal dispensary and prepared an Immune Elixir treatment for them โ€” a combination of herbal tincture and warming tea. ๐Ÿ’š

Each herb brings something different to the blend:

๐ŸŒฟ Echinacea โ€“ supports the immune response, particularly at the first signs of a cold.
๐ŸŒฟ Astragalus โ€“ supports resilience and vitality, especially when feeling run down.
โค๏ธ Elderberries โ€“ antioxidant-rich berries traditionally used during seasonal illnesses.
๐ŸŒผ Elderflowers โ€“ useful for congestion and traditionally used to encourage gentle perspiration.
๐ŸŒฟ Thyme โ€“ a beautiful respiratory herb, particularly useful for coughs and mucus.
๐ŸŒฟ Peppermint โ€“ cooling and refreshing when feeling congested or heavy-headed.
โค๏ธ Schisandra โ€“ an adaptogenic berry supporting resilience and recovery.
๐Ÿซš Ginger โ€“ warming and comforting for chills, aches and sluggishness.
๐ŸŒฟ Oregano โ€“ an aromatic herb valued for its antimicrobial properties.

I love combining tincture and tea โ€” concentrated herbal support alongside something warm, hydrating and comforting. โ˜•๐ŸŒฟ

And this batch was particularly special because I made it for my friends. ๐Ÿ’š

Sometimes a little herbal care is one of the nicest ways to say, โ€œI hope you feel better soon.โ€ ๐ŸŒฟ

๐Ÿซ CHOCOLATE โ€” MORE THAN A SWEET TREAT, A STORY THROUGH TIME

When we hear the word chocolate, most of us immediately think of a chocolate bar. But the story of chocolate began thousands of years before the modern bar existed.

Chocolate begins with cacao โ€” Theobroma cacao, a plant deeply connected with the cultures of Mesoamerica. Cacao was so highly valued that its beans were even used as currency in parts of the region. Imagine carrying cacao beans in your pocket to pay for something! ๐ŸคŽ

To these ancient cultures, cacao wasn't simply a sweet indulgence. It was valuable, culturally important and deeply woven into everyday and ceremonial life.

And then, over time, cacao changed.

What we commonly call chocolate today can be very different from cacao in its less processed form. Many commercial chocolates contain varying amounts of cacao alongside sugar, milk, fats, flavourings and other ingredients.

๐ŸŒฟ The closer we come to cacao itself, the more interesting its nutritional story becomes.

Cacao naturally contains compounds such as flavanols, as well as minerals including magnesium, iron and copper. Research into cocoa flavanols has particularly explored their relationship with cardiovascular function and blood flow.

But perhaps what fascinates me most about chocolate is that its story connects food, plants, culture, history and human emotion.

After thousands of years, chocolate still has an extraordinary ability to make us smile.

And perhaps that little twinkle in a child's eye when chocolate appears tells us something too. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿซ

Sometimes, when we look beyond the packet on the supermarket shelf, we discover that an everyday food has a much richer story to tell.

๐ŸŒฟ WHEN A FORMULA BECOMES A โ€œGOLDEN STARโ€ โญ

Sometimes a formula starts with one person, one problem and a little herbal thinking. ๐ŸŒฟ

A friend of mine, who works as a hairdresser, was struggling with one of his fingers. Because of the nature of his work, he uses his hands constantly โ€” holding scissors, gripping, bending his fingers and repeating the same movements throughout the day.

One finger in particular had become uncomfortable and difficult to bend properly.

So I went back to my herbs. ๐ŸŒฟ

I prepared an Anti-Inflammatory Formula combining:

๐ŸŒฟ Devilโ€™s Claw
๐ŸŒฟ Catโ€™s Claw
๐ŸŒฟ Willow Bark
๐ŸŒฟ Turmeric
๐ŸŒฟ Ginger

I chose these herbs for their traditional use and properties in supporting the body's inflammatory response, circulation and musculoskeletal comfort.

And this is the part that made me smileโ€ฆ

After just one dose, his finger was already feeling better and moving more comfortably. ๐Ÿ˜Š

And apparently, word travels fast! ๐Ÿ˜„

Other clients passing by heard about the formula and started asking if they could have some too.

Within a week, my little Anti-Inflammatory Formula had earned its nickname:

โญ THE GOLDEN STAR FORMULA โญ

These are the moments I really enjoy as a herbalist โ€” taking what I've learnt about medicinal plants, thinking about the individual in front of me, and putting that knowledge into practice.

Just wanted to share this little story with you. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฑ WHAT ARE WE DOING TO OUR SOIL?

We often think about the quality of the food on our plates โ€” but how often do we think about the soil it came from?

The widespread introduction of synthetic herbicides in the 1940s changed agriculture dramatically. Weeds increasingly became something to eliminate rather than part of a complex living ecosystem.

Today, enormous quantities of herbicides are used worldwide. But soil isn't simply dirt beneath our feet. Healthy soil is alive โ€” home to microorganisms, fungi, insects and countless biological interactions that help plants grow and obtain nutrients.

When we repeatedly interfere with this delicate ecosystem, we risk affecting soil biodiversity, fertility and resilience.

And ultimately, what happens to the soil matters to us.

๐ŸŒฟ Healthy soil supports healthy plants.
๐Ÿฅ• Healthy plants provide our food.
โค๏ธ And the quality and diversity of our food contribute to our own health.

Perhaps instead of asking only, โ€œHow do we get rid of the weeds?โ€, we should also be asking:

โ€œWhat does this land need in order to remain alive?โ€

As a Herbalist, I find this particularly meaningful. The medicinal plants we value so much don't exist separately from their environment. Their story begins with living soil, clean water, sunlight and the extraordinary relationships found in nature.

We cannot separate our wellbeing from the wellbeing of the natural world. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฟ THE GUTโ€“BRAIN CONNECTION: WHY DIGESTIVE HEALTH MATTERS

When supporting a childโ€™s overall wellbeing, sometimes we need to look beyond what we can immediately see.

The gut and the brain are in constant communication through the gutโ€“brain axis, and digestive health can influence many aspects of wellbeing โ€” from nutrient absorption and immune function to energy and general health.

For children with autism, ADHD/ADD, dyslexia, learning disabilities or mental health challenges, nutritional and digestive health can be an important part of a wider, individualised approach to supporting their wellbeing.

As a qualified Medical Herbalist, with a background in Special Educational Needs, I bring these two areas of knowledge together when working with children and their families.

My approach is not about treating a diagnosis. ๐ŸŒฟ
It is about looking at the whole person โ€” diet, digestion, nutritional status, lifestyle and individual needs โ€” and identifying areas where additional support may be helpful.

๐ŸŒฟ Are you having frequent headaches or migraines and you don't know what to do? ๐ŸŒฟ

You're not alone.

For many people, headaches are more than "just a headache." They can interfere with work, family life, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

One of the most common triggers is stress.

When we're under prolonged stress, the blood vessels in the brain can repeatedly go into spasm (vasospasm) and then dilate (vasodilation). This cycle can contribute to throbbing pain, experienced during many migraines and headaches.

It can also trigger neuroinflammationโ€”an inflammatory response involving the nerves of the brain, particularly the trigeminal nerve and the occipital nerves.

๐ŸŒผ As a Medical Herbalist, one of the herbs I frequently consider is Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium). Feverfew contains natural compounds that help reduce neuroinflammation and may act in a similar way to ibuprofen by helping calm the inflammatory process involved in headache pain.

๐Ÿ’œ If stress and anxiety are significant contributors, Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata) can be a wonderful companion herb, helping to calm the nervous system and ease tension.

๐Ÿฉบ As an Auricular Acupuncturist, I also use a headache and migraine protocol that includes stimulating the:
โ€ข Minor Occipital Nerve
โ€ข Occiput Point
โ€ข Adrenal Point
โ€ข Shen Men
โ€ข Sympathetic Point

These points aim to help regulate the nervous system, reduce tension, and support the body's natural pain-relieving mechanisms.

Every person is different, which is why identifying the underlying cause of recurrent headaches is just as important as treating the symptoms.

๐ŸŒฟ Natural medicine doesn't simply ask, "How do we stop the pain?"
It also asks, "Why is the pain happening in the first place?"

If you experience frequent headaches or migraines, a personalised consultation may help uncover the root cause and create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
