There has been a big increase in anxiety and depression over the years the amount of people reporting to their GP has increased, we are all aware that a ban of social media it on its way, but what can we do for ourselves ? to begin to wean ourselves off what is a highly addictive piece of tech that is sadly affecting all of us young and old.
Whether its looking at some ones perfect life ( not always true by the way) or being sexually or racially bullied on line. Here are some of the steps we can take to detox from addictive algorythums. We have to manage it like its an addiction.
1 Manually log out after every session so logging back in requires active effort.
2 Use Screen Time Locks: Set app limits and ask a friend or partner to set the passcode so you cannot bypass it.
3 Physical Distance: Keep your phone in another room overnight or charge it away from your workspace.
4 Replace the Habit Loop
Identify Triggers: Notice if you scroll when bored, lonely, or stressed. Keep a journal of how you feel.
Pick Micro-Alternatives:
Replace scrolling with a book, a podcast, or a text message to a friend.
Carry Physical Subsitutes: Keep a pocket notebook, a kindle, or a physical puzzle nearby for idle moments.
Go for walks get out of the house and dont take your phone,go for 10 or 15 mins and build up to longer.
