After 27 wonderful years, we are celebrating the retirement of Dr Rachel Kidd from Caldbeck Surgery! 🌿

The team marked the occasion with a sunny evening at Eycott Hill Nature Reserve, honouring Rachel’s huge contribution and passion to our green practice work and commitment to the NHS Net Zero journey.

A big thank‑you to Men in Sheds, Caldbeck, who created a beautiful insect house for her garden — a perfect reminder of her time with us. Rachel also received a hamper of goodies all sourced in Caldbeck, keeping with the environmental theme she has championed for so long. 💚

As we wish Rachel a very happy retirement, we’re also excited to welcome Dr Ben Rowley, who joins us as a partner from 1st July 2026. Ben brings 10 years of partnership experience and we’re delighted to have him join the team.

Here’s to Rachel’s next adventure — and to welcoming Ben to Caldbeck Surgery! 🌟

We are looking for a dynamic Practice Manager to lead our friendly, high-performing team at Caldbeck Surgery.
We’re an Outstanding-rated practice serving 4,400 patients in a beautiful rural setting, with a strong reputation for quality care and education.

What you’ll do:

Lead and inspire a team of 30 staff
Oversee day-to-day operations (finance, HR, IT, premises)
Drive strategy and ensure long-term sustainability
Work closely with GP partners, PCN, and NHS organisations
Champion excellent patient care and experience

About you:

Strategic, organised, and a natural leader
Strong communication, HR and management skills
Financially aware and confident with IT systems
NHS/primary care experience helpful but not essential

👩‍⚕️ About the Role
You’ll play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the surgery by managing and processing documentation. Your responsibilities will include:
✅ Processing medical documents (letters, emails, clinical system)
✅ Coding diagnoses, procedures, and investigations
✅ Managing referrals to secondary care
✅ Handling insurance reports & Subject Access Requests (SARs)
✅ Liaising with hospitals, GP surgeries & external organisations
✅ Helping update our website & social media

💻 What We’re Looking For
✔ Good IT skills
✔ Strong organisation and attention to detail
✔ Ability to work as part of a team

Caldbeck Surgery is on the lookout again for a dedicated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly rural practice team.

If you’re compassionate, motivated, and eager to support high quality patient care, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll work under the supervision of our Practice Nurses, supporting clinical care and helping deliver essential services. The role includes tasks such as venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, wound care, ECGs, vaccinations, and health promotion.
The role is offered at 20 hours per week, 8am to 6.30pm,
Wednesday and Thursday with some flexibility for cover and extra hours.

What We’re Looking For
✔ Highly literate with strong written English
✔ Able to work independently and prioritise workload
✔ Experience in healthcare, ideally within the NHS
✔ Knowledge of GP clinical systems (EMIS Web preferred)
✔ Commitment to confidentiality and excellent patient care
✔ Willingness to learn and develop new clinical skills

🕒 12–16 hours per week

📆 Flexible working (ideally over 3 days)

This varied role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping a team run smoothly, supporting admin, meetings, HR records, online presence and day‑to‑day organisation. You’ll play a key part behind the scenes in delivering great patient care.

✨ Experience in GP/NHS is helpful but not essential – we’re looking for the right person with a positive attitude, initiative, and good organisational skills.
