At HCA UK our focus is providing you with peace of mind.

When life gets busy, it's easy to put your health on the back burner. Work, family commitments, and everyday responsibilities can make it easy to ignore symptoms or delay getting checked.

But your health deserves to be a priority.

We recently supported a patient through what was understandably a daunting time after receiving unexpected health news. His experience highlights the importance of listening to your body, especially as you get older, and attending regular health checks.

If you're referred to our one-stop prostate service, you'll have access to rapid assessment and diagnosis in a single visit. This includes blood tests, MRI scans, and biopsies where required, with results discussed on the same day whenever possible.

Our goal is to help you get the answers you need quickly, and give you the confidence to get back to doing the things you love ❤️

If you've noticed any changes in your urination or bladder health, don't wait. Book an appointment to see one of our urology specialists today

Prostate cancer risk increases with age, particularly in men over 50, yet early signs are often overlooked or mistaken for normal ageing.

This Men’s Health Week, it’s an important reminder not to ignore the subtle changes.

Symptoms can include:
💧 A weaker urinary flow
💧 Difficulty starting urination
💧 Needing to go more often
💧 Feeling like your bladder isn’t fully empty

However, not all men will experience symptoms. Prostate cancer can develop silently, which is why awareness and timely investigation are so important. We offer fast access to specialist assessment, including blood tests, MRI scans and biopsy if needed, helping you get answers quickly.

Mr Aziz Gulamhusein is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at 📍The Wilmslow Hospital and 📍The Christie Private Care.

For British Heart Week, we spoke to Consultant Cardiologist, Professor Aneil Malhotra about how sport can affect heart health and the key role of sports cardiology.

❤️ What are the most common heart risks for young athletes?
The most common causes of serious cardiac events in young athletes are inherited or congenital heart conditions. These include heart muscle conditions known as cardiomyopathies, inherited heart rhythm disorders, congenital coronary artery disorders and, less commonly, inflammation of the heart muscle following a viral infection.

❤️ Can contact sports cause sudden cardiac arrest even in perfectly healthy hearts?
In very rare circumstances, a sudden blow to the chest at a very specific moment in the cardiac cycle can trigger a cardiac arrest. This phenomenon is known as Commotio Cordis. It can occur despite the heart being structurally normal and has been reported in sports such as cricket, baseball, hockey and martial arts. Rapid access to CPR and a defibrillator is critical and can be life-saving.

❤️ How can athletes protect themselves and prevent these risks?
By being aware of symptoms, understanding their family history, and seeking medical advice if concerns arise. It is also important not to ignore symptoms during exercise, such as chest pain and breathlessness, and to allow adequate recovery from significant viral illnesses. Ensuring that sporting venues have emergency action plans, access to defibrillators and people trained in CPR is vital.

❤️ If I have an existing heart condition, does it mean I can never play sports?
Not necessarily. Many individuals with heart conditions can continue to participate in sport following a comprehensive assessment. Modern sports cardiology focuses on shared decision-making and personalised risk assessment, helping people remain as active as possible while minimising risk. For many patients, exercise remains an important and beneficial part of their overall health.

⚽ With the football World Cup kicking off later this week, many of us will be enjoying a kickabout with family and friends. But if you're experiencing foot or toe pain, it might be worth getting it checked out.

Whether you’re playing regularly or just joining in, looking after your feet helps keep you active and injury-free.

Pain on the top of your big toe or difficulty bending it upwards could be a sign of big toe joint arthritis - a common cause of forefoot pain and stiffness. As the joint changes over time, this can lead to bony lumps, discomfort when moving the toe, and eventually impact running and even walking.

Mr Andy Molloy, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Wilmslow Hospital, says to watch out for:

👣 Increasing stiffness in the big toe
👣 A visible lump on the top of the joint
👣 Pain when pushing off while walking
👣 Running becoming uncomfortable
👣 Certain shoes significantly worsen symptoms

The good news is surgery isn’t always needed. Simple changes like supportive footwear, rocker sole trainers, orthotics, anti-inflammatories and adjusting activity can often help.

If big toe pain is starting to affect how you move, you can book an appointment with Mr Molloy here
