I wish people could have the good manners to let you know that they are no longer wanting an appointment. I don’t mind people cancelling but it makes my blood boil when I wait in for someone who isn’t going to turn up. Apart from being bad mannered, I may have lost other work because I thought that the person requesting the appointment would turn up.

I have recently had one or two beauty treatments and the thought occurred to me how much people are willing to spend on looking good but how unwilling they are to spend money on their health..

So with beauty in mind and as summer is just around the corner when we generally tend to wear clothes that expose more of our skin, I am wondering if many people are put off wearing summer clothes because they have a skin condition?

In my 14 years of practice I have treated a number of people who have eczema, acne or psoriasis as part of their symptom picture. Medication prescribed by the doctor had not really helped them but after a course of homeopathic treatment their conditions all improved. Eczema and Psoriasis are chronic conditions with periods of aggravation and remission. Homeopathic treatment should at least lessen the period and severity of aggravation and lengthen the periods of remission. Acne is different in that it is often due to hormonal imbalance. The beauty of homeopathy is that not only would it take into account the skin symptoms but is often very good at sorting out hormonal problems too.

What is involved? It would involve having a very detailed case history recorded and the appropriate remedy or remedies being prescribed. Initially appointments would be at monthly intervals which would lengthen out as your condition improves. Very chronic problems can be helped but can take time. As well as your skin improving your general health and well being should improve as well.

A new study from Switzerland investigated the usefulness of classical homeopathy for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI) in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Participants were treated either with a standardized prophylaxis alone or in combination with homeopathy.

Adjunctive homeopathic treatment lead to a significant decrease of UTI in SCI patients. Therefore, classical homeopathy could be considered in SCI patients with recurrent UTI.

'Even here homeopathic prescribing can achieve stunning, unexpected results. This was so in a patient who had chronic viral hepatitis and was taking large doses of cortisone (40mg a day initially, lowered to 30mg a day ongoing), and was cured over a two-month period on Phosphorous 30c twice a day for three days initially.

The patient felt somewhat better – less nauseous, less bloated. The Phosphorous was stopped for four days (allowing the body to respond). My rule to the patient is “when losing any good effect do it again but less often”. I therefore gave one Phosphorous 30c in the evening, morning and evening. Then I stopped and waited, this time for a further week.

This regimen was repeated over a month when I decided to prescribe Phosphorous 6c one a day for a month. The lower potency more often seems to be indicated when the cause is due to a toxic drug. This patient was completely cured. He reduced his own cortisone himself and finally came off it altogether.'
