Volunteer Community First Responders are a bit like the NHS’s rapid response neighbours. While the ambulance is making its way, they’re often the ones already at the door, kit in hand, getting stuck in and starting those vital early interventions that can quite literally mean the difference between life and death.
The thing is, once the ambulance crew arrives and the patient heads off to hospital, that’s usually where the story ends for them. No follow-up, no ending, just the next call and the next dash out the front door.
So when an update does arrive, it’s a pretty special moment.
One of the responders from Glossop & Hadfield Community First Responders, Grant (FR5009), received a letter through the post that absolutely made his day. It confirmed that the care he provided, alongside crews from North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, didn’t just help in the moment… it helped save a life.
Even better, the patient went on to receive treatment in hospital and has since been discharged.
Community First Responders don’t volunteer for the praise. They do it because they care about their communities and they’re willing to drop what they’re doing to help a stranger on what might be the worst day of their life.
But every now and then, a letter lands on the doormat that reminds them exactly why they do it.
Absolutely brilliant work from everyone involved. 🚑👏
