The Bitter Truth: Is "Bitter Kola" and Herbal Concoctions Slowly Hurting Your Kidneys?

Hello, my Good Living Ghana family!
Today, let's talk about something very important that many of us do out of love for our health, but it might actually be causing hidden harm.
In our communities, there is a very big belief: "If it is bitter, it is medicine."
Because of this, many people take Bitter Kola every single day like it’s candy. Others drink heavy herbal mixtures (concoctions) every morning to "wash the body," cure diabetes, or boost their energy.
But have you ever stopped to ask yourself: How are my kidneys handling all these bitter things?
Let’s look at how the body works in a very simple way.

The Sponge in Your Kitchen

Imagine you have a beautiful sponge or a fine sieve that you use to filter dirty water. If you only pour clean water and light juice through it, the sieve stays clean and works perfectly for years.
But what happens if you start pouring heavy, thick, unmeasured mud and raw mixtures through that same small sieve every single day? Very soon, the tiny holes in the sieve will get blocked, tear, and stop working.

Your kidneys are exactly like that sieve.
Their main job is to filter your blood, remove waste, and send it out as urine. When you overload your body with daily Bitter Kola, strong herbal roots, and unmeasured mixtures, your kidneys have to work ten times harder to filter them out. Over time, this heavy workload causes the kidneys to get tired and slowly shut down.

The Big Myth: It’s Natural, So It Can’t Hurt Me

This is the mistake many of us make. Just because something comes from a tree or the ground doesn't mean we should take it without control. Even natural things have a "dosage."
Think about it: when you buy medicine from the pharmacy, they tell you to take one tablet, not the whole bottle. But with herbal mixtures, we often drink a whole cup or chew multiple seeds daily without knowing the right amount. Your kidneys are the ones paying the price in secret.

What Should You Do Instead?
I am not saying herbs are bad. Our ancestors used them! But we must use wisdom:
1. Stop the Daily Overdose: Bitter Kola and herbal mixtures should not be your daily snacks. Use them sparingly, not as a permanent lifestyle.

2. The Best Detox is Free: You don’t need a bitter mixture to "wash" your system. God already gave you the best detoxifier in the world, Pure Water. Drinking enough water every day flushes your kidneys and keeps the filter clean.

3. Check Your Health Properly: If you are feeling unwell or have conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, please visit a clinic. Don't try to treat everything with a new herbal mixture you heard about on the street.

Let’s protect our kidneys before they start crying for help. Keep it simple, keep it moderate, and take care of your body!
Share this with someone you care about who loves chewing Bitter Kola or drinking morning mixtures. Let’s save some kidneys today!
Stay healthy, live good!
