More often than not, gender-based violence is rooted in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours that are learned and reinforced over time. What boys are taught about power, respect, emotions, and relationships can influence how they engage with others as men.
That is why prevention starts early. Teaching boys about respect, consent, emotional responsibility, healthy relationships, and accountability can help challenge the beliefs and behaviours that allow violence to become normalised.
If we want to challenge gender-based violence, we have to look beyond the behaviour itself and ask what we are teaching, normalising, and allowing to go unchallenged.
The men we want tomorrow are shaped by what we teach today.
