HEPATITIS
Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver, typically caused by viruses (A, B, C, D, E), alcohol, or autoimmune diseases. Common symptoms include yellowing skin (jaundice), fever, fatigue, dark urine, and abdominal pain. While acute infections can clear on their own, chronic cases can cause serious liver damage or cancer, requiring anti-viral or immune-suppressing medications.
Key Aspects of Hepatitis:
Causes: The primary cause is viral infection, but it can also stem from autoimmune diseases (where the immune system attacks the liver) and toxins such as alcohol or certain drugs.
Symptoms: Many people experience no symptoms, but when they do, they often include jaundice (yellowing skin/eyes), fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, and pale stool.
Transmission:
Hepatitis A and E: Usually spread through contaminated food or water.
Hepatitis B, C, and D: Transmitted through contact with infected body fluids, such as shared needles, s*xual contact, or from mother to child during birth.
Risk Factors: High-risk factors include sharing needles, unprotected s*x with multiple partners, consuming contaminated food/water, or traveling to areas with poor sanitation.
