The ANMC leadership participated in the 2nd African Healthworkforce Investment Forum held in Accra, Ghana under the auspices of WHO AFRO.

The 3-day Forum was held under the theme “Africa’s Health Workforce, From Words to Action: Plan, Train and Retain”. The opening session was graced by Her Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Hon. Minister of Ghana, Ghana’s Education Minister and Minister of Labour, Employmentand Jobs.

Within the 3-day period, Ministers of health, Directors of Public Services, High Commissioners from a number of African countries and the WHO Regional Director and his team shared insights on health workers’ migration trends, training capacities and retention strategies and policies that could retain health workers on the continent to safeguard the delivery of quality health services to Africa’s population.

Two important documents were launched during the Forum. These were “State of the health workforce in Africa 2026” and “Africa Health Workforce Agenda, 2026 - 2035”.

Reflections of many speakers at the Forum was that, it was about time words were put into action. Stronger commitment and the political will of nations was crucial in propeling health investment to the next level to sustain healthcare on the continent.

FROM THE AFRICAN NURSES AND MIDWIVES CONFEDERATION (ANMC)

The African Nurses and Midwives Confederation (ANMC) extends its warmest congratulations to Mrs. Perpetual Ofori Ampofo on the well-deserved recognition conferred upon her during the 25th Session of the West African Health Sector Union Network (WAHSUN).

This honour is a fitting tribute to her exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions during her tenure as Chairperson of WAHSUN. Her unwavering commitment, visionary guidance, and dedication to advancing the interests of health sector workers across the ECOWAS sub-region have left an indelible mark on the Network’s growth and cohesion.

ANMC takes immense pride in celebrating such a distinguished leader whose impact transcends national boundaries and continues to inspire nurses and midwives across Africa. Her recognition not only affirms her personal achievements but also highlights the vital role of nurse leaders in strengthening health systems and promoting regional solidarity.

We also commend the leadership of WAHSUN, particularly the current Chairman, Comrade (Dr.) Kabiru A. Minjibir, and the General Secretary, Comrade (Dr.) David Tenkorang-Twum, for upholding a culture of excellence and honouring those who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the Network.

Once again, we congratulate Mrs. Perpetual Ofori Ampofo on this remarkable achievement and wish her continued success in all her endeavours.

Josephine Agyei, Chair of the ICN Student and Early Career Nurses Alliance Steering Group, took part in the Forum, bringing the perspectives of emerging nurse leaders into global policy discussions shaping the future of health systems, workforce sustainability, and health equity worldwide.

🕯️ A Solemn Moment for African Nursing and Midwifery

The African Nurses and Midwives Confederation (ANMC) mourns the passing of Morphe Sylvester Santi, the Secretary General of the Lesotho Nursing and Midwifery Organization (LNMO).

His dedication to nursing and midwifery leadership across Africa leaves a legacy that will not be forgotten.
We stand in solidarity with the LNMO, his family, and all who were touched by his service.
