Know Better Fridays #001
PCOS has a new name. Meet PMOS.
For years, “polycystic o***y syndrome” told women the wrong story about their own bodies.
Many don’t even have cysts.
What they have is a complex hormonal and metabolic condition that shows up as irregular or absent periods, stubborn weight gain, excess hair growth on the face and body, hair thinning, acne, crushing fatigue, fertility challenges, anxiety, depression, insulin resistance, and disrupted sleep.
One condition. Many faces. Mostly missed or minimised.
The rename, published this week in The Lancet, is the result of 11 years of global advocacy, 22,000 clinicians and patients, and a demand to finally be heard.
PMOS. Polycystic Metabolic and Ovarian Syndrome. A name that actually reflects what this condition does to the whole body.
At TALHC, we’ve always treated this in its full complexity, because your hormones, your metabolism, and your future health all matter.
If you’ve been living with these symptoms and not getting the answers you deserve, it’s time to book in.
