🏥 Choose your place of delivery before labour begins.
A well-equipped facility should be able to provide emergency C/S, blood transfusion services, and NICU care for preterm and sick newborns.
Plan ahead. Save time. Save lives. 🤱🏽✨
❓Does your chosen facility have the capacity to handle an emergency?

Viability of the fetus generally begins from 28 weeks (7 months), depending on the healthcare setting or country. However, some babies may arrive earlier than expected due to certain medical conditions or emergencies.
Do not wait until full term before preparing and purchasing baby items. Early preparation helps reduce stress during emergencies and allows the mother to focus on safe delivery, as well as the proper care of both mother and baby. 🤱🏽✨

Your birth experience matters, and preparation makes all the difference.
Knowing your possible mode of delivery and building a relationship with your midwife, doctor, or obstetrician before labour can help reduce fear, confusion, and delays during emergencies.
Attend your antenatal visits regularly, ask questions, understand your options, and know where to seek help when the need arises.
A well prepared mother is more confident, safer, and ready for childbirth.
Early preparation saves lives for both mother and baby. 🤍

Early action can save the life of both mother and baby.
Recognizing danger signs early and seeking immediate medical care can prevent serious complications.
If you experience severe bleeding, severe headache, blurred vision, swollen face or hands, reduced fetal movements, convulsions, high fever, or severe abdominal pain during pregnancy, report to the nearest health facility immediately.
Do not ignore the warning signs.
Safe motherhood begins with timely decisions.

Arranging for transport is one of the most important factors in Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness.
Many people live in remote areas and may not have access to a car during labour or emergencies. It is important to speak with neighbours or relatives who have cars and can help when the need arises.
You can also save the contacts of about 2 or 3 reliable taxi drivers you can call at any time.
And remember, most emergencies happen at night.
Do not wait until labour starts before making arrangements.
Planning ahead can save lives.

Choosing a skilled birth attendant early in pregnancy can save lives. A trained midwife, nurse or doctor can identify danger signs early and provide the right care during labour and delivery.
Do not wait till labour starts before deciding who will assist you during childbirth. Prepare early, ask questions during ANC visits and choose safe delivery care for both mother and baby.
A prepared mother is a safer mother 🤰🏽✨

Our next topic on Birth Preparedness and Complications Readiness is saving money for delivery and emergencies.
Let’s not wait till the last minute before looking out for financial help which may not be readily available. Preparing financially during pregnancy helps reduce stress during labour and emergencies.
Saving money can save you at the least expected moment.

As we begin this series on Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness, I’ll be taking you through it step by step. 🤍
Today’s reminder is simple but very important:
Choose where you will deliver before labour starts.
Every pregnant woman should have a delivery plan early, know the health facility, transportation route, emergency contacts, and the people who will support you when labour begins.
Labour can start unexpectedly, and preparation can make all the difference.
A prepared mother is a safer mother. 🤍
