Day 14/30: I never really understood the idea of God…
I grew up Greek Orthodox and went to church for Sunday School, namedays and religious holidays but my idea of God was created by stories we were told as kids.
My idea of God was this superficial man in the sky that looks over us all and if you sin you go to hell and if you live a life being ‘good’ you go to heaven.
As I grew older, I drifted further away from this ideology.
Then, I went to India and as I learnt about yoga philosophy I found that a lot of the scriptures spoke about God.
Still, I couldn’t connect.
Until I had a conversation with .wandererr on my last few days in India which changed my view forever.
He shared with me a book about yoga philosophy and as I opened it I saw once again the word God.
With slight frustration that this word was coming up again and unable to connect, I asked him what he thinks God is?
He said something along the lines of “I see God as this universal energy found within everyone and everything, an energy that unites us all.”
I got shivers down my spine as something clicked for me.
It all began to make some sense.
God is everywhere. God is inner peace. God is beauty. God is union. God is consciousness.
Anyhow, I’m still learning through personal experience. I know I don’t have it all clear yet and I probably never will.
I’m taking the next 4 days off from posting, I’m still committed to practicing but I’m going to be busy with work and I want a little social media detox!
Ciao for now.
Con mucho amor,
