We take a lot of pride in creating a calm, fear-free environment at Heal 💙 and love it when our sessions become a family affair!

Here are Fluffy😸 and Jill🐶 - two separate clients - waiting for their pet siblings to be done with their weekly swims. They see each other every week so what started as a tentative friendship has now become one big extended Heal family! 🥰💙

There’s nothing more adorable than a clumsy, soft and floppy puppy 🥰🐾 It’s not just cute though – it’s their joints and bones still under construction!

Growth plates are soft cartilage at the end of long bones that help your puppy’s legs to grow and lengthen. Until they close, they are vulnerable to injuries which often don’t show up until much later.

💨 High-impact activities like long-distance running, jumping or slipping on hard floors can fracture or stress the growth plate.

Trauma or overexertion can cause a growth plate to close unevenly or prematurely, leading to permanent limb deformities, bowed legs or early-onset arthritis.

🦴 When do growth plates close?
Toy/ small breeds: 6-12 months
Medium breeds: 10-15 months
Large breeds: 15-18 months
Giant breeds: 18-24 months

❌ AVOID:
• Running and jumping on hard surfaces
• Repetitive fetch
• Jumping from heights
• Long-distance jogging
• Repetitive, high impact exercise

✅ TRY THIS INSTEAD:
• Short, gentle walks
• Short, varied play with breaks
• Swimming / hydrotherapy
• Balance exercises and controlled conditioning

Puppyhood is not just about vulnerability. It’s also a golden opportunity to build a strong foundation through good movement.

We get only one chance to grow them well - let’s work together to raise you a strong, confident and capable dog! 💙💪

Congratulations on your new family member! 🐶🐾

Right now, you’re probably thinking about …

… potty training (and we all know how challenging that that be!), learning to walk nicely, socialisation - so much going on!

But something else happening beneath all that fluff — and it’s a body still under construction 🏗️.

Growth plates are open, joints are soft, tendons and ligaments are still developing. The choices we make during this window — the exercise we encourage, the impact we allow and the rest we protect — will shape the body they’ll grow into.

But puppyhood isn’t all about vulnerability. It’s a golden opportunity to build a strong foundation.

And strong foundations are built by design — not by accident.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll unpack everything we know about:
🐾 How puppies grow
🐾 How much sleep they need
🐾 Why exercise choices matter
🐾 What “good movement” really looks like

Let’s give your puppy the headstart you both deserve 🐾

We’ve spent weeks talking about water safety for your dogs, and the difference between confidence and safety. You’ve read the posts, saved the lists and learnt what to watch for.

Now it’s time to put everything into practice!
Today, we’re launching our Swim: A Guided Introduction to Water 💦!

💦 WHAT:
A 4-session foundation programme for dogs who are generally fit and healthy, and who are ready to build water confidence safely and calmly, with guidance.

🐶 WHO it is for:
🛟 Dogs who are new to swimming or need to build water confidence
🛟 Dogs who have NO ONGOING clinical, orthopaedic/ spinal/ neurological conditions that need closer management

What makes our Safe Swim programme different?
💙 Every session is led by a certified canine Hydrotherapist.
💙 Sessions are 1-on-1 so you get the same care, attention and handling we give to our rehab dogs — applied to building confidence and good movement from the start.
💙 No crowded group sessions. No unsupervised splashing.

⛑️ Before we begin, SAFETY FIRST!
📝 We will review your dog’s medical history before scheduling your first appointment - this is our first safety checkpoint.

It ensures that:
- swimming is safe and appropriate for your dog
- they are on the right programme for their needs
- we can design an individualised plan, tailored to your dog’s temperament and ability

⚠️ If your dog has a condition like hip dysplasia, luxating patella, arthritis, IVDD or is in post-surgical recovery, they will need a tailored clinical hydrotherapy plan instead of this short introductory course.

DM us and tell us about your dog!
We’d be happy to guide you to the right plan 🐾

Confidence is built in drops, not waves.
Are you ready to take the plunge with us? 💧

Here’s the final chapter of our open water safety series! There’s been so much to unpack but the risks are real and we really you to be safe 🙏

We’ve covered hidden hazards, gear, fatigue and post-swim care. If you missed it, catch up on our profile first, then come back here. Because now we’re talking about the emergencies that many of us don’t see coming until it’s too late.

🌊 Salt water toxicity — for all the dogs that love to chase toys and bite the water! Fresh water and enforced breaks are non-negotiable at the beach.

🫁 Aspiration pneumonia — water in the lungs doesn’t always show immediately. Signs can develop hours after a swim.

🦠 Leptospirosis — a bacterial risk that spikes after rain, in stagnant water and in areas with rat populations. Rinse your dog after any freshwater swim.

🟠 Sand impaction — dogs who retrieve toys on the beach, dig obsessively or mouth sandy objects can ingest enough sand to cause a life-threatening blockage.

We personally know of cases in every single one of these - which is why we’ve put this guide together. These accidents are preventable if you know what to look for 🙏

We’ve covered pool safety, now let’s talk about what’s waiting at the beach.

Open water in Hong Kong is beautiful - but completely different from a controlled environment like a pool. You are at the mercy of the elements and conditions can shift quickly - currents, hidden drop-offs, swells. Hazards most owners don’t think about until something goes wrong.

This is Part 1 of our final instalment in our water safety series (just because there is so much to cover!) 🐾

In this post, we’ll look at:
💧 Safe water
🌊 What’s beneath the surface
🦺 Gear — what they do and what they don’t
🪀 Toys — what’s best to use
😴 Fatigue, exhaustion and post-swim care

Swipe, save and share it with a fellow pawrent - it could be the difference between an epic day at the beach - or unwanted drama. No one’s asking you to be the fun police - we just want you and your pups to stay safe out there! ❤️

Coming up in Part 2: Medical emergencies every pawrent needs to know - aspiration pneumonia, saltwater toxicity, sand impaction - and what to do when things go wrong.

🙌 But we’ll get hands-on too!
🛟 We’ll show you how to choose the right gear, what to look for in a float jacket and how to get the right fit.
- We’ll practise with our gear but feel free to bring your own if you’d like us to do fit checks!

⛑️ Be prepared for accidents with basic first aid skills by Once And For All (OAFA) and learn about medical emergencies like aspiration pneumonia and sand impaction.

Summer days by the pool with your best puppers are meant to be fun. And they can be when you know how to keep everyone safe 💦🛟

As a canine hydrotherapist, I’ve spent thousands of hours watching dogs move through water - but a big part of my job is also about managing our own pool water and ensuring a safe, clean and hygienic environment for all of us to work in.

So I’ve pulled together all that we’ve learnt through years of training and lived experience, into what I hope will be a complete guide to keeping your dogs safe in and out of the pool. Here’s to more years of adventures with our loyal companions! ❤️

Swipe through for our top pool safety tips 🐾 and I’d love to hear what’s the first thing you plan to do on your next pool day! 💦

And if you have a pup who needs a gentle introduction to water or who could some help with building confidence in water, we’re always here to help 🤗

Before we dive into pool safety and open water hazards, let’s clear the air and get some facts straight first.

Here are 5 water safety facts we’d like every pawrent to sit with, because the more we know, the better we can protect our dogs — both in and out of the water.

Swipe through and let me know which one surprised you or if you’re already your pup’s top lifeguard 🛟

Save this for your next dog day of summer or share it with a friend who needs this. Follow us for our complete water safety guide for both ends of the leash - be this summer!💧

Hydrotherapy is not just about rehab. It’s often something quieter - learning good movement. Because good movement builds strength, and strength builds confidence that the dogs cannot fake.

Take the Italian greyhound (or any greyhound, really.) Their bodies are built for speed and running - aero-dynamic, a deep chest and legs that go on forever. Water is not their medium.

But what I love about our work - we can make swimmers out of runners. Gently, patiently and by honouring their design while quietly expanding what they believe their body can do.

Water confidence isn’t about splashing in and hoping for the best. It’s built in drops, not waves. And when it clicks? That’s when the magic happens 💙

Do you have a water-confident dog? 🙋🏻‍♀️
