NEW HOPE Kitchen is my purpose and the reason I continue grounding myself in Bali. 🌱

It began with a simple intention: to inspire youth to understand the importance of eating for health and to reconnect with where their food comes from.

My vision is to create a collaborative community space where young people can learn practical life skills through cooking classes, nutrition education, and hands-on experiences — empowering them to make choices that support their long-term health and live vibrant lives.

I believe deeply in returning to the traditional roots of fresh, local food, supporting local farmers, and helping the next generation see that healthy eating is accessible, meaningful, and empowering.

My next step is to partner with a local warung or kitchen space so NEW HOPE Kitchen can begin offering these classes and workshops for youth.

So far, $1,783 has been raised toward the $7,000 goal, and I am incredibly grateful. Every contribution and share brings this vision closer to reality.

What’s in Your Fridge?

Simple meals that I actually eat.

Living in Bali has shaped one of my favorite kitchen rituals:
Before I shop, I do a full fridge sweep and cook what I already have.

It started in 2020 during the pandemic, when many families here were struggling to access food. I realized I could still eat nourishing, beautiful meals — on less — simply by using everything I had with intention and gratitude.

What began as a necessity became a practice I never outgrew.

Here’s Yesterday’s “What’s in My Fridge” lunch:

Fridge finds:
• 1 chayote squash
• A slice of kabocha pumpkin
• ¼ cup leftover kidney beans (almost forgotten)
• A chunk of tempeh

I added shallots, fresh garlic, chopped fresh chiles, and Mexican spices to create a simple vegan hash.

Finished with:
• Sautéed spinach
• A sunny-side-up egg
• Sliced avocado

20–30 minutes.
Deeply satisfying.
Zero waste.♻️

When I cook this way, I feel grounded. Grateful. Creative. It saves money, reduces waste, and reconnects me to the food in front of me.🧑‍🍳

What is your relationship with food like?

Building a relationship with food is a lot like our personal relationships with people.

Think about it — how we feel about who we spend our time with matters.

Now think about how you feel when you spend your time eating junk food.
Do you feel well?

It’s just like spending time with a toxic person who makes you feel like crap.

When you surround yourself with people who support your growth, value your time, make you feel cared for, and respect your boundaries — you feel loved, right?

You know the saying, “You are what you eat.”
It’s so true.

When we reach for a high-sugar quick fix to create artificial energy, it sends a signal to our brain that this is what our body needs — and it leaves us wanting more.

Now think about that person who brings excitement into your life, but is never there for you when things are hard.

That person is sugar.

Sugar is a quick fix.
It leads to a crash and burnout.

I don’t know about you, but I want the friend who shows up when things feel hard.
That’s what real support looks like.

I don’t want a quick-fix relationship — or a sugary snack — that leaves me drained in the end.

I’m curious — have you set intentional goals for how you want to feel this year in 2026?

Two weeks before the year began, something shifted inside of me. After 3 years of feeling out of alignment, I stopped asking “what should I do next?” and started asking more honest questions:

What’s draining my energy?
What am I saying yes to that’s actually hurting me?

This clarity changed everything. I came back home to my body and discovered what I needed to change to feel more alive and aligned.🙌

I said NO to habits that left me anxious, bloated, and exhausted.
I said YES to cooking again, moving my body more every day, and nourishing myself in ways that feel grounding and sustainable.🌱

From Survival to Purpose — Building NEW HOPE Kitchen🌱

The past few months have tested me in ways I never imagined.
I’ve been doing my best to stay strong — working different jobs, doing whatever I can to keep moving forward.🌱

When you’re in survival mode, it’s easy to feel disconnected from your purpose… and from the people who give it meaning.☺️🌱

But I haven’t given up.💪🏻🌱

Every day, I remind myself why I started this journey — to build NEW HOPE Kitchen, a healthy, community-based kitchen in Bali that will make nourishing food accessible to all and provide nutrition education and opportunities for local youth.

This vision is still alive in my heart — and growing stronger every day. 💚
