This is what people don’t always see. The energy accounting you have to do for everyday things when you live with chronic illness.

Chronic illness doesn’t give you a choice whether you get to be strong or not. You just have to be.

04/06/2026

When anxiety spirals, especially when you’re also managing chronic illness, your brain tries to solve everything at once, and that’s exactly what makes it worse.
The STOP technique interrupts that loop in under 4 minutes.

Even with knowledge, tools, and training, there are some lessons that only life teaches you.
Living with chronic illness has reshaped how I understand rest, identity, and worth, not just professionally as a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist, but personally too.

These aren’t lessons I learned from theory.
They’re lessons I had to live through.
And I share them in case they resonate with someone who needs the reminder today: you are not your productivity, and rest is not something you have to earn 🤍

Best of luck to all those starting their Leaving and Junior Cert exams today. The hard work is done, the knowledge is there so if you feel some nerves, just remember to breathe gently. You’ve got this 🤍

Pushing through isn’t strength and your effort isn’t the problem. The narrative is 🤍

Can chronic illness cause anxiety? Yes, and if you’ve been quietly wondering whether you’re making it worse yourself, this one is for you

Sometimes “just breathing through” isn’t enough, so try this extra step to help tell your nervous sytem it’s ok to let go.

“You look so well.” They mean it kindly. But your brain doesn’t just take the compliment it starts overanalysing. Looking well has never meant being well. 🤍
Save this if you needed to hear it or send it to someone who needs different words.

One thing I never expected with chronic illness was how much it would affect me socially.
Not because I stopped caring about people, but because my nervous system became so overwhelmed that even socialising started to feel exhausting.
It’s such a hard part of living with chronic illness to explain unless you’ve experienced it yourself.
