It's hard to believe that it was one year ago today that I started my 50-hour Assessments of Needs protest at Leinster House!!!
The waiting list at that time, which was deemed a national disgrace, was 15,000 children waiting to be seen.
I've just found out that despite the €20million of Government funding that went to "Cara's Fund" (which paid for over 6,000 Assessments), the list has escalated by 50% to over 22,000!!!! And all the promises that the waiting lists would be reduced, have failed. Their current strategy isn't working.
So the failure of the Government to implement my other suggestion of a huge emergency international & national recruitment campaign has led to this disaster.
I can't tell you all how disappointed I am for all of those beautiful children who are rotting on those waiting lists, all while the Government systematically breaks the Assessments of Needs law by not assessing them within 6 months.
I'm going to seek an immediate meeting with those with the power to change this!! And if they can't change the direction of this national crisis, then I could be making the greatest advocacy comeback since Lazurus left the tomb!!!!! Watch this space!!!!!
