Unwind your mind

Unwind your mind What one thing will you do today to unwind your mind? The Unwind Your Mind blog is a common sense approach of tackling mental health.

We want to bring the focus back to mental wellness and away from mental illness. So instead of talking about the things that make you feel bad, we focus on what makes you feel good. To do this we encourage people to do something every day that helps them unwind their mind. Think of it as your 5-a-day for your mental health! What will you do to unwind your mind? The blog is a project of Irish ment

al health advocate Marie Duffy who has been advocating for better mental health services in the Irish health care system for over 20 years. You can read more about Marie on her blog at www.unwindyourmind.wordpress.com

Winter doesn’t have to be something we just ‘get through’.
This season is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and recharge.
Lately I’ve been embracing the idea of “wintering” — giving myself permission to rest more, enjoy cosy moments, and lean into simple comforts. Think warm drinks, good books, unhurried evenings, and getting outside even for a short walk (there’s no bad weather, just the wrong clothing!).
Winter is a chance to reflect on the year, nourish yourself with proper food, reconnect with loved ones, and find joy in the small things. ✨
Here’s to wintering well — softer days, gentler rhythms, and taking care of our minds and bodies along the way.

Just spent the past 3 days in Belfast at a mental health conference on personality disorders and although I'm exhausted, I'm also inspired and empowered. I had the privilege of being selected to speak and although it was challenging, I'm really happy that I did it. So much work to do to catch up to the NHS and lived experience roles as I feel we're about 20-30 years behind in Ireland. But I'm determined that we will get there. Looking forward to being part of the solution instead of being deemed part of the problem as someone who uses the mental health services.

This is one of the biggest lessons you can ever learn. It takes time to do so, but once you do, it is a complete game changer.

Fluffy the dog wants to remind you that Bank holiday weekends can be long and lonely if you don't have any plans. Drop someone a text to see how they are or arrange to meet up for a cuppa. Try not to isolate yourself (easier said than done of course) If you are alone and need someone to speak to the Samaritans are always available on 116 123.

Hands up if you're excited for the weekend!
