‼️The Pelvic Floor Muscles are an extremely important group of muscles that sit at the bottom of our pelvis‼️

Many people struggle with doing pelvic floor exercises and are unsure of how to do them correctly.

🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♀️The pelvic floor muscles have 2 different types of muscle fibers- slow twitch and fast twitch. We need to exercise both of these types of muscle fibers by:
✅Do x10 quick squeezes, where you simply squeeze and let go.
✅ Hold the squeeze for up to 10 seconds (you may only manage a few seconds to begin). Do not hold your breath as you squeeze! Relax for the same time you held the squeeze. And repeat up to 10 times.
Do these exercises x3 times a day.
⏰ There is gold standard evidence that when done correctly and consistently pelvic floor exercises can resolve incontinence and help with prolapse symptoms.
⌛️ Allow yourself 3-6 months of doing pelvic floor exercises.

If you are unsure if you are doing pelvic floor exercises correctly reach out to your local pelvic health physiotherapist for guidance.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2025 🥳

🩺The post natal check up (the mummy mot) is a thorough assessment of any pelvic health concerns you have after having a baby. This may be related to pelvic floor issues, tummy muscle separation, scar healing, or any bladder or bowel issues.

You may not have any symptoms but are keen to just get 'checked out' after having a baby or want advice on returning to exercise or sport 🏋️‍♀️⛹️‍♀️

The appointment is advised from 6 weeks post natal but you are never too late to have it. The goal is to get you back to feeling yourself again and getting you back to the activity or sport you enjoy! 🌈

Meet the face behind Donegal Pelvic Health Physiotherapy 👋🏻
I’m Bridget, and I’m excited to bring pelvic health physiotherapy services to my local community in Donegal 💚💛
I am a CORU registered Physiotherapist with nearly 15 years’ experience working in Canterbury, London, Belfast and now happily home in Donegal. Over the last 5 years I’ve specialised in pelvic health working full time in the NHS and now the HSE.

I am passionate about pelvic health and I feel privileged to be able to help improve symptoms for a range of very personal but very common problems. This led me to undertake many courses and an additional qualification in the area to enhance my practice & provide the best care for people I support.

I have completed a postgraduate certificate in advanced clinical practice in pelvic health from Brunel University, further equipping me with extensive knowledge and experience in treating both women and men with pelvic health concerns.

At Donegal Pelvic Health Physiotherapy, we offer assessments for a variety of pelvic health conditions for both women and men, before devising evidence-based personalised treatment plan for you. Together we can develop a plan that empowers you manage your pelvic health and optimise your quality of life 🤸‍♀️

What does a pelvic health physiotherapist do? 🤔

I knew this needed to be one of my first posts as my family often say they don’t know what I do!
Even friends working as physiotherapists in other areas do not really understand what a pelvic health physiotherapist does!

💻I am now taking bookings for pelvic health physiotherapy. DM for an appointment.
