Rory O'Connor, Rolfer I practice Rolfing, a manual therapy to relieve pain, and make movement easy. It concentrates on the fascia, the sensitive tissue around the muscles.

I am attentive to your reasons for seeking body work and always inspired by the client's courage to heal

Here is the article I wrote for the Autumn 2026 edition of Positive Life, which is now available for free in a multitude of health shops and cafes and restaurants, about Rolfing. Pick up a copy — you’ll see it in the second photo — but also here it is!

The magazine did well when quoting from it: “this slightly neglected part of the body [the fascia] 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴, and through Rolfing we can ‘talk’ with it.”

Very thankful to Andrew Holohan for taking a photo (and more!) for it.

I wrote a short article about Rolfing in this edition of Positive Life, which has the theme of appreciation. “The fascia is a part of the body which we should appreciate more. As so often, the first step to appreciation is acknowledgement.”

In June I spent a brief but impetus-giving weekend in southern Norway with the veterinarian-acupuncturist-healer-guy Are Thoresen. We weren’t working with animals or needles. In a strange way, it was about balance, though not the kind of physical, readily visible balance that you can very usefully obtain from Rolfing. Still, there is a connection, and here is Are Thoresen’s tightrope on which he practices daily! Further photos of his little chapel, a Rosy Cross (right beside the tightrope…), a horse skeleton (he had 10% of the horses in Norway on his books at one point), and of the man himself. I have so much more to practice in this, so what Are calls “mid-point therapy” is not front and centre of what I offer. But I will keep going with this work in some form.

Early in a series of Rolfing sessions, we will look at the mobility of the pelvis around the hips, and seek to increase it if necessary. It can be an early part of the client's increasing awareness of "where they are" in their body.
Here I am directly addressing the hip joint, so that the femur is distinguished from, and in no way fused with, the pelvis. It can also help to correct any excessive pelvic tilt backward or forward that might make it harder for the upper body to be supported.
