Endometriosis is often misunderstood as “just a hormonal condition.”

But research increasingly shows it is also associated with chronic inflammation and changes in immune system activity.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. These deposits respond to hormonal signals and can contribute to inflammatory processes in the surrounding tissues.

Over time, this inflammation may be linked with symptoms such as:

• pelvic pain
• painful periods
• fatigue
• digestive symptoms
• fertility challenges

Endometriosis affects around 1 in 10 women, yet awareness and understanding of the condition is still evolving.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and conversations like this help bring greater understanding to a condition that affects millions of women worldwide.

Something I value deeply in any women’s health company is how they handle things when an issue arises.

I recently contacted regarding a customer support matter, and after review, it was resolved promptly and fairly.

It would have been easy to rely purely on policy. Instead, they chose to listen and respond with discretion.

As a Registered Nutritional Therapist working in fertility and perimenopause - and someone who recommends tools based purely on clinical judgement (no affiliate links or incentives) - that matters.

Trust is everything in women’s health.

Appreciate the professionalism shown. 👏🏻👏🏻

A little clarification after this week’s radio show 🌱

On Kitchen Table Therapy this week, Brendan asked me about a time in my life when I genuinely felt my best – and I shared that, years ago, my basic food framework was paleo.

I realised afterwards that I didn’t describe it very clearly on air, so I wanted to explain it properly here.

When I talk about paleo, I’m not talking about a rigid diet or a set of rules.

I’m talking about a framework for food quality.

At its core, paleo simply asks:
👉 What if most of our food came from real, whole, minimally processed sources?

Vegetables, fruit, good-quality protein, healthy fats, nuts and seeds form the foundation.
Ultra-processed foods, refined sugars, and industrial seed oils are reduced.

That’s it.

For me, at that point in my life, this way of eating supported:
• steadier energy
• better digestion
• less food noise
• and a sense that my body was being properly nourished

Not because paleo is “magic”, but because food quality, simplicity, and consistency mattered.

Over time, that framework evolved.

Sometimes that evolution includes paleo-inspired eating – keeping the whole-food base, while reintroducing foods like legumes, dairy, or gluten-free grains if they’re well tolerated.

And for some people, especially those with autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, a short-term therapeutic version called AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) can be useful.

AIP is a more targeted, temporary version of paleo designed to reduce immune load and identify food triggers – with the clear intention of reintroducing foods, not staying restricted forever.

And this is the part I care most about saying clearly 👇

There is no single “best” way to eat for life.

You don’t need to overhaul your life.
You don’t need to eat perfectly.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.

Tomorrow on Kitchen Table Therapy (12–2pm), Brendan and I are talking about real nutrition for real people – the kind that actually supports the body over time.

We’ll be exploring:
• prevention as reducing pressure on the body
• why copying what works for someone else often backfires
• how stress affects digestion, cravings, and energy
• and why regular, consistent nourishment matters more than willpower

This isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing what’s supportive – most of the time.

If you’re listening over lunch, in the car, or with a cup of tea… you’re exactly where you need to be 💛

If you’re tuning in to Kitchen Table Therapy tomorrow (26 January), this episode is for you.

From 12–2pm on Limerick City Community Radio, Brendan and I will be having a calm, evidence-informed conversation about prevention, personalisation, and practical nutrition – without fear-mongering or perfectionism.

We’ll be talking about:

how everyday food and lifestyle choices quietly support long-term health

why stress and irregular eating place real strain on the body

why nutrition is never one-size-fits-all

and how small, steady habits really do add up over time

Our aim with this show is simple:
to make health conversations feel accessible, respectful, and rooted in real life.

Health doesn’t begin with rules or extremes.
It begins with understanding – and support.

Hope you’ll join us 💚

There are moments on a fertility journey when the hardest part isn’t the waiting –
it’s holding everything together.

Cocoon was created as a response to that.

An intimate, one-day fertility retreat designed to offer a calm, supportive space away from pressure, comparison, and constant striving. A space where the nervous system can soften, the body can rest, and nourishment is prioritised over urgency.

Throughout the day, fertility-informed guidance, gentle movement, sound-based practices, and time for reflection are woven together in a way that feels steady and accessible – not overwhelming.

Cocoon is an intentionally small group offering, allowing for depth, care, and a sense of being truly held.

Farm-to-Fork Nourishment

Today’s lunch was one of those meals that just feels good from start to finish. I stopped by one of my favourite places, McNally Family Farm, to stock up on some local produce. There’s something deeply satisfying about knowing where your food comes from, especially when it’s grown and crafted with such care.

On my plate today: freshly baked Guinness bread, a mix of farm greens (mixed lettuce, scallions, and sunflower shoots), sweet courgette relish (a recent Irish Food Award Gold winner), salt-baked beet salad, and the creamiest Dublin Hills soft goat’s cheese. From my own kitchen, I added air-fried sweet potato (16 minutes – just enough to get those golden edges) and a simple tin of sardines in brine, drained and served on the side.

It’s not fancy, but it’s deeply nourishing. The colours alone tell a story: antioxidant-rich beetroot, beta-carotene from the sweet potato, omega-3s from the sardines, and a beautiful blend of local greens offering folate, magnesium, and chlorophyll to support detoxification and energy production.

This is how I love to eat… simple, honest, and rooted in both connection and function. Food that doesn’t just fill you up, but fuels your body, supports your hormones at any age and stage, and reminds you that nourishment can be joyful.
