https://www.fearo.com/ A lot of you have been with me since the start of my journey to lose 10 stone. But for those of you who don't know my story here is some background to this journey. It all began when I applied to be on the TV show Operation Transformation on RTE in 2010. I didn't make it as one of the leaders on the show but was given a role where I appeared a few times on the show. They were tracking my progress with the health team I was assigned with the HSE. I also had a diary cam to log how I was getting on. It was the perfect start for me. It got me to realise I had a big problem and had to tackle it. It is now 6 years later and unfortunately I am not where I had hoped I would be. I left the original group I had set up on Facebook to try lose the weight by myself. I had very mixed results. Getting down to 19 stone a couple of times but I ended up always putting the weight back on slowly. I then got desperate and started using fad diets like Atkins to lose weight quickly. This worked in the short term but I always put the weight back on and then some. I am restarting 3 stone lighter and now a non smoker for 3 years. (Down from a 30 a day habit!) So I am not starting from scratch. But it does feel my goal is a long way away from me. So I have returned to Facebook. I have moved over from my original group page which had almost 900 members. I was wary of people getting too many notifications through the group so thought this page would work better. So now I am ready to finish this journey once and for all. The support I get from everyone here on Facebook is such an amazing help. Thank you all so much for being part of this journey with me. Mark.

Food noise is so hard to explain to someone who has never lived with it.

In this clip from Make Your Mark episode 9, explains what it was like before GLP-1s. Waking up thinking about breakfast, snacks, dinner, sweets for the car, what food was next, when food was next, and then trying to hide parts of it from other people.

That part really stood out to me. Not just the eating itself, but the secrecy, the pretending, the “I haven’t eaten all day so I need a big dinner” when the reality was completely different. That is the bit a lot of people never see from the outside.

For Holly, GLP-1s quietened that noise in a way that felt almost instant. Not everyone has the same experience, and it does not work the same for everyone, but hearing her describe it as “is this what everyone else feels like?” will make sense to a lot of people.

Because for many of us, it was never just about being hungry. It was the constant mental battle around food.

Yes, you can inject Mounjaro straight from the fridge.

I personally just find it stings more when it’s cold, so I usually take mine out around 30 minutes before injecting and let it come up a bit closer to room temperature. I find that much more comfortable.

The main thing to remember is this. Once the pen reaches room temperature for the first time, you then have 30 days to use it. After that, it does not need to stay in the fridge, but it does need to be stored safely, kept out of direct sunlight and kept below 30°C.

That’s why this can matter more if you are spacing out doses in maintenance or trying to get extra use from a pen. For the standard 4 weekly injections though, it does not need to stay refrigerated after the first dose.

I still keep mine in the fridge because it suits my routine, I know exactly where it is and I know it’s being stored safely. But in terms of injecting it, yes, you can do it cold. I just prefer not to.

As always, follow the storage guidance that comes with your medication and check with your prescriber or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Do you inject yours cold or leave it out first?

I’ve set up a mailing list over on fearo.com for anyone who wants a bit more detail on my Mounjaro and weight loss journey.

Social media is great, but there’s only so much you can fit into a video or a caption. With the emails, I’ll be able to share bits and pieces I don’t always talk about here. Things like food items I’ve been using, meals that have helped me, exercises I’ve been doing, what I’ve learnt along the way, and the small changes that have made a big difference for me.

It won’t be constant emails either. I’ll be sending them monthly, so just useful updates, tips and tricks from my own experience without filling up your inbox.

The emails will come from [email protected], so keep an eye out for that once you sign up.

And of course, you can unsubscribe at any time if it’s not for you.

You can join the mailing list now at fearo.com

THE MOUNJARO “OFF SWITCH” MOMENT

Have you had yours yet?

Mine happened in the cinema. Before Mounjaro, I had the same routine every time I went. I’d get a large popcorn, sit down, and finish every single bit of it. Even if I was full, even if I felt sick, even if I was dying of thirst, I’d still keep going.

It wasn’t even really a decision. That was just what I did.

Then, a couple of weeks into Mounjaro, I went to the cinema again. Same order, same large popcorn, same routine.

But halfway through the film, something completely different happened. I just stopped eating.

There was no big battle in my head. I wasn’t trying to be “good”. I wasn’t using willpower. I simply didn’t want any more, so I put it down and watched the rest of the film.

It wasn’t until I stood up to leave that I noticed half the popcorn was still sitting there. That had never happened before.

That was the moment I realised Mounjaro wasn’t just making me less hungry. It was changing my relationship with food.

For me, that was the real game changer. Not because I couldn’t eat, but because for the first time, I genuinely didn’t want to keep going.

Have you had an “off switch” moment like that?

I’m honestly shocked by how many people have messaged me recently saying they stayed on 2.5mg of Mounjaro for their whole journey and still lost loads of weight.

When I started on 2.5mg the first three weeks were probably the strongest effect I ever felt from Mounjaro. Hunger dropped, food noise quietened and I felt in control very quickly. Then towards the end of the month I felt like it had started to wear off so I moved up.

But looking back now I do wonder if some of that was in my head. Was it actually wearing off, or was I expecting it to because I knew the next dose was there?

At the same time I’ve heard from plenty of people who felt nothing until the higher doses, so this is definitely not me saying everyone should stay on 2.5mg. Everyone is different and dose decisions should always be between you and whoever is prescribing it.

But I do think this needs to be talked about more. Maybe there are more people than we realise who don’t need to rush up through the doses. Maybe some people can get amazing results on the lowest dose.

I’d love to know your experience. Did 2.5mg work well for you or did you only feel the benefits on the higher doses?

I’ll be adding more around my own Mounjaro experience, weight loss, maintenance and everything I’ve learned along the way over on fearo.com.

Dunnes Stores Mounjaro friendly food finds.

Snacks, lunch ideas and handy bits for when you’re on the go.

And yes, I know some of these are processed foods. I know you could say you’re better off eating chicken, eggs, Greek yoghurt and cooking everything from scratch. And yes, that’s great when you can do it.

But real life doesn’t always work like that.

Sometimes you’re in work. Sometimes you’re out with the kids. Sometimes you’re in the car. Sometimes you just need something quick that helps you stay on track instead of grabbing the first thing you see.

These are the kind of foods that have helped me massively on my weight loss journey. They fill me up, help me get my protein in, taste decent and don’t cost a fortune.

For me this is what makes it realistic. Not eating perfectly every day. Just having better options available when life is busy.

Dunnes actually has some brilliant bits for this and I’ll keep doing these supermarket finds if people find them useful.

Pints on Mounjaro? Not a problem! Just as tasty as ever!

It's rare I have a drink these days but that's nothing to do with Mounjaro. When I do it doesn't impact it at all.

The only thing I noticed is that if I do get a hangover I don't crave the high fat and sugar foods the following day. In the past the fallout from drinking was worse than the drinking itself.

Myself and had a chat about how the start of his Mounjaro journey is going and honestly he is doing brilliant.

He has been on his weight loss journey for two months now and he is already down two stone. The last three weeks have been with Mounjaro but before starting the medication he wanted to get some lifestyle changes in place first. I think that was a brilliant move.

The question now is should he move up from 2.5mg to 5mg?

My honest opinion is no. Not yet. He is doing so well on 2.5mg and this is where I think proper support really matters. One of the biggest mistakes I made on my own Mounjaro journey was moving up too quickly because in my head I thought that was just what you were meant to do. Looking back now I don’t think I needed to rush up the doses the way I did.

But there is another side to this as well. While Oddie is doing great and the weight is coming down, his calories have actually been a bit too low some days. Just over 1,000 calories some days is very low and he had started to notice his mood was a bit low too. That is almost certainly linked to not eating enough.

That is why it is so important not to just eat as little as possible. You need to know what your body actually needs. Work out your BMR and get a rough idea of your daily calorie needs. Apps like Nutracheck can help with this and your supplier should be able to guide you too.

Losing weight is the goal but feeling awful while doing it is not the plan. Food still matters. Calories still matter. Protein still matters. And going too low can make the whole thing much harder than it needs to be.

That’s why having the support of .ie is so important for Oddie. It means he has proper doctor guidance and is not just guessing or copying what someone else did online.

I’m now in maintenance after losing 12 stone and I’m on the max dose of 15mg. Oddie is at the start on 2.5mg and already doing incredibly well.

Two similar people but at completely different stages of the Mounjaro journey. And that’s why I think these conversations are important. It’s not about rushing the dose or starving yourself. It’s about doing what is right for you with the rig

One of the biggest Mounjaro / Non Scale wins for me today and it sounds so simple.

I got off a packed bus coming out of the city centre on the hottest day of the year. Standing room only. Absolutely roasting. The kind of bus journey where this time last year I would have got off with my shirt completely soaked through with sweat.

And I don’t mean a little bit. I mean full on destroyed t-shirt. Back soaked. Chest soaked. Feeling self conscious. Trying to hide it. Wondering if people noticed. Then spending the rest of the day feeling uncomfortable.

Today? Nothing. Not even a small bit.

That might not sound like much to some people but for me that is a massive win. I used to sweat so badly. I ruined so many t-shirts and shirts over the years because of it. I’d be anxious before going anywhere in warm weather because I knew what was coming.

Since losing the weight on Mounjaro it has completely changed. I can actually deal with heat now. I can get off a packed bus and not feel embarrassed. I can wear clothes without worrying they’ll be ruined within an hour.

These are the things people don’t always talk about with weight loss. It’s not just the number on the scales. It’s the little everyday moments that remind you how much life has changed.

More of my Mounjaro and weight loss journey is on fearo.com and I’ll keep adding more blogs, podcast links and useful information there over time.
