It’s actually controlling your breath.

The moment you hit cold water… your body panics.

Your heart rate spikes and your instinct is to gasp and to want to get out.

This reaction is normal but fighting the cold usually makes it feel worse.

Here’s what to do instead:

Before you get in take one slow deep breath in.

As you lower yourself in exhale slowly and controlled.

Then keep your breathing steady.

Why does this work?

Slow breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system the part of your body responsible for calm.

It tells your brain that you’re safe

When you control your breathing, the cold stops feeling like something to survive and starts feeling like something you can move through and stay calm in the uncomfortable ❄️
