Happy Autistic Pride Day.
This day differs from the "Autism Awareness" month of April, as it it Autistic led - by the Autistic and for the Autistic community.
The big difference is that today is a day when actually Autistic people celebrate their identity, community and their culture as well as recognise the value autistic people bring to society and take pride in being their true authentic selves.
Autistic community is protective for Autistic people when it comes to quality of life, mental health, general well being and the opportunity to thrive.
This day takes place in month of June and first took place in 2005, inspired by the Pride of the LGBTQIA community, with whom we share a significant overlap.
Autistic Pride is important for a historically (and currently) marginalised group. It does not mean Autistic people don't struggle or that we dont need support and societal, cultural change.
