⚠️What was the purpose of yesterday's visit to Clare by Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill?
⚠️ It seemed to be nothing more than a PR exercise. It has certainly caused much commentary very little of which, if any, is positive.
⚠️ The most pressing issue for most of the population of Clare is the overcrowded emergency department at UHL and the proposed location of the new hospital.
⚠️ Her visit started with a meeting with Fine Gael councillors from the county. This meeting took place at Joe Cooney's office.
⚠️ The meeting was followed by a trip to Kilkee, a token visit. The Minister did have a discussion on healthcare with Dr. Tom Nolan, on the street in KIlkee.
⚠️ Our understanding from members of the Campaign and others that her visit to Ennistymon comprised of a quick photo opportunity at the Community hospital. We have had no confirmation of interactions anywhere in the area with members of the public.
⚠️ While part of her trip would have been along part of the Wild Atlantic Way the busiest and most congested part of the county was excluded. The Cliffs of Moher and the northern part of the county attracts over ONE and HALF million visitors a year. Yet her itinerary failed to include this.
⚠️ The afternoon consisted of a tour of the Medical Assessment Unit followed by a meeting with politicians and other invited guests at Ennis hospital.
⚠️ Her day concluded with a press conference .
⚠️ Yet again the public were excluded from most of the day with very little opportunity, other than in Kilkee to interact with the Minister.
‼️ Excluded from the events of the day were the people who have marched and walked the streets in protest, written emails, signed petitions, filled in surverys, attended public meetings and helped keep the issue on the agenda ‼️
