BowelScreen has expanded its free screening programme in Ireland.

From 1 April 2026, people aged 57 to 71 are now eligible for free bowel screening.

Around 2,500 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer in Ireland each year. Early detection can make a real difference, which is why screening is so important.

BowelScreen is for people who do not have symptoms.

If you have any symptoms or concerns, please contact your GP, here at Rocklow Medical, even if you have recently had a normal bowel screening result.

HPV Awareness Day – Protect Your Future Health

At Rocklow Medical Centre, Fethard, we’re encouraging everyone to take simple, powerful steps to reduce their risk of HPV-related cancers.

HPV Vaccination
The HPV vaccine is safe, effective, and protects against the types of HPV that cause most cervical, throat, and other cancers. It’s recommended for both girls and boys.

Cervical Screening (Smear Test)
Regular smear tests can detect early changes before cancer develops. If you’ve received your screening invitation — don’t delay. Early detection saves lives.

Prevention is powerful.
Protection is possible.
Screening is essential.

Call us to book your appointment or to discuss cervical screening with our GP team.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. If you catch it, it’s important to stay hydrated. And the number of people with the virus is quite high at the moment.
If you happen to get it, these other things will help too:
• Get lots of rest
• Take paracetamol if you’re in discomfort
• Eat when you feel able to
Norovirus can be very unpleasant but typically goes away in about 2 days. You can usually treat yourself at home.
