We’ve become so focused on calories that we can forget to ask a much more important question:

What is this food actually giving my body?

Calories tell us how much energy food contains, but they don’t tell us how nourishing it is.

A plate built around quality protein, vegetables, healthy fats, fibre, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients can provide so much more than a calorie number ever could. 🥘🍲🍳

It’s not about obsessing over eating less.

It’s about choosing foods that nourish, fuel and support your body.

Look at your plate, not just the numbers. 💙

Thank you so much to Avril from Soulution Nutrition for very kindly gifting me this beautiful product from Living Nutrition 🙏💚

I had actually already bought a box myself to try, so when Avril gave me another one I was absolutely delighted, and very grateful for the opportunity to properly explore it. ❤️

What really caught my attention about this product is that it’s so much more than simply looking at a number of probiotic strains.

It contains 30+ billion live cultures across 120+ strains, within an organic fermented wholefood matrix, and naturally provides prebiotic and postbiotic nutrients too. 🌱

And there’s another reason I’m particularly interested in exploring this as a woman going through hormonal changes…

The gut and our hormones are much more connected than we often realise.

Our gut microbiome contains what is known as the estrobolome — a collection of microbial genes and enzymes involved in the metabolism and recycling of oestrogen.

In simple terms, the gut microbiome plays a role in how oestrogen is processed and recirculated in the body, which makes the gut–hormone connection particularly fascinating during perimenopause and menopause.

So for me, supporting microbial diversity, gut health and the environment in which our beneficial bacteria can thrive is an important part of looking after my health from within. 💚

I’m looking forward to properly trying this and seeing how I get on with it.

Thank you again, Avril and Living Nutrition 💙 I’m genuinely so grateful. 🙏✨

I really like this message from Dr Clare Nieland — healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated, restrictive or expensive. 🌿

You don’t need a cupboard full of expensive “superfoods” or another restrictive diet to support your health.

Often, it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference: eating more whole foods, reducing ultra-processed foods, cooking from scratch where possible and making small, realistic changes that you can actually maintain.

And importantly, healthy eating doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune. There are plenty of nutritious, budget-friendly foods that can form the foundation of a healthy diet.

A great reminder that nutrition is about what you do consistently, not about chasing perfection.

🍎🥦 One simple step I recommend when preparing fresh produce…

We can’t always avoid pesticide exposure completely, but we can take simple steps to reduce residues on the surface of our fruit and vegetables.

A bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) soak is a simple, inexpensive option that research suggests can help remove certain pesticide residues from the surface of produce.

⚠️ It’s important to understand the limitation: washing or soaking cannot remove pesticides that have already penetrated into the produce.

My approach is always reduce exposure where you can, without becoming overwhelmed by trying to make everything perfect.

If you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, taking a few extra minutes to wash and prepare them properly is a small habit that can make sense.

🌱 Small changes. Better choices. From within.

Did you know your food choices can influence your body’s natural GLP-1 response? 🥚💙

Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein, along with healthy fats and important nutrients. Protein-rich foods can help support satiety and may stimulate the release of naturally occurring GLP-1 and other appetite-regulating hormones.

GLP-1 plays an important role in appetite, fullness, blood sugar regulation and digestion — which is one reason a protein-rich breakfast can be a smart way to start the day.

It’s not about trying to “boost GLP-1” with one magic food. It’s about building meals that work with your body’s natural appetite and satiety signals. 🌿

And eggs are a wonderfully simple place to start. 🥚✨

STRESS-RELIEF LATTE 🍄🌿

Need a moment to unwind? This comforting latte combines two popular adaptogens with warming spices for a cosy, caffeine-free evening drink.

🌿 Ingredients

• ½ tsp reishi mushroom powder
• ½ tsp ashwagandha powder
• 1 cup warm unsweetened almond or coconut milk
• ¼ tsp Ceylon cinnamon
• 1 tsp honey (optional)

📝 Instructions

Warm the milk gently (do not boil). Whisk in the reishi, ashwagandha and Ceylon cinnamon until smooth and frothy. Sweeten with honey if desired, then sip slowly and enjoy.

🌱 Why these ingredients?

🍄 Reishi
• Traditionally used to promote relaxation and wellbeing.
• May help support sleep quality and the body's response to stress.

🌿 Ashwagandha
• An adaptogenic herb that may help support resilience to stress.
• Some studies suggest it may help reduce cortisol levels in people experiencing chronic stress.

🤎 Ceylon Cinnamon
• Adds natural sweetness and warmth.
• Rich in antioxidants and may help support healthy blood sugar balance.
• Contains much lower levels of coumarin than Cassia cinnamon, making it the preferred choice for regular use.

🍯 Honey (Optional)
• A natural sweetener with small amounts of antioxidants.
• Adds soothing flavour without refined sugar.

💚 Tip

This latte is naturally caffeine-free, making it a lovely evening drink as part of a relaxing bedtime routine.

⚠️ Please note:
Ashwagandha is not suitable for everyone. Avoid during pregnancy unless advised by your healthcare professional, and speak to your doctor if you have thyroid disease, an autoimmune condition, or take medication.

An interesting discussion from Dr. Vonda Wright on calcium intake and bone health 🦴

Current evidence suggests that, for most people, meeting calcium requirements through food is preferable to relying on supplements. Calcium-rich foods provide a complex matrix of nutrients that work together to support bone health and are generally absorbed more naturally by the body.

High-dose calcium supplements may not provide the same benefits and, in some individuals, have been associated with an increased risk of vascular calcification. Bone health also depends on adequate vitamin D, vitamin K2, magnesium, protein, and regular resistance exercise, all of which play important roles in helping the body utilise calcium effectively.

It's a great reminder that supporting our bones is about so much more than just calcium alone.

Did you know? 🫐🍓

Raspberries and blueberries are naturally rich in fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants, making them a delicious way to support your overall health.

One of my favourite ways to enjoy them is with organic Greek yoghurt for a protein boost and a sprinkle of raw cacao powder or nibs for a rich chocolate 🍫 flavour and extra antioxidants.

Simple, nourishing and absolutely delicious! 💙

How do you like to enjoy your berries?
