Hey! I’m Trevor O’Donoghue, and this is Focus on Happiness, a tribe built around mindful photography and finding joy in everyday moments. After years of using photography as a tool to help me stay present and navigate life’s challenges like loss, illness and anxiety. I’ve learned that happiness is something we create, not just something that happens. Through Focus on Happiness, I aim to share what

I’ve learned and help others connect with themselves and the world around them through their cameras. This is a space for photographers of all levels to explore the creative and healing power of photography, participate in fun daily challenges and come together both online and offline to capture life’s meaningful moments. Let’s find peace, gratitude and happiness—one mindful click at a time. Explore more at www.focusonhappiness.ie

You can be intelligent, self-aware and still feel totally stuck.

Because knowing what to do and doing it are two completely different things.

Sometimes we think through every possible outcome, every risk and every mistake before we’ve even taken the first step.

It can feel productive, but it isn’t always progress.

Sometimes it’s just fear and an attempt to remove every single bit of uncertainty before we start.

Life rarely gives us those types of guarantees.

My biggest changes didn’t come from thinking harder.

They came from questioning the way I was thinking, understanding myself a bit better and taking steps forward before I had every single answer.

Sometimes it’s a new conversation, a curious question or a different perspective that helps you see what you couldn’t see in your own head.

If you’ve been feeling on pause for a while, maybe you don’t need to think harder.

Maybe you just need a different perspective.

You’re not a missing person 👀

We can spend years searching for some hidden, fully formed version of ourselves.

But life keeps moving while we’re looking.

And sometimes, the more determined we are to “find ourselves,” the more disconnected we become from the person actually living our life today.

Maybe the problem isn’t that we’ve lost who we are.

Maybe our own voice is just buried under too many opinions, expectations, comparisons and unnecessary noise.

Giving ourselves a little space can help us hear it again.

You’re allowed to change.

You’re allowed to be unsure.

You’re allowed to create your life as you go.

There is no final version of you out there under a bush waiting to be found.

Maybe finding yourself isn’t about looking backwards for who you were.

Maybe it’s about being present enough to shape who you’re becoming as you move forward.

đŸŽ„ I talk more about it in this video.

Trying ≠ Having Notions

It’s amazing how quickly a good idea can be stopped by one imaginary person saying

“Who do they think they are?”

We’re told not to care what people think, and that’s great advice, but it’s not always that easy.

Sometimes it isn’t failure that stops us. It’s the fear that somebody is watching us trying, judging us and hoping we fu€k it up.

But everyone who is good at something wasn’t so good at the start. They had to learn, get things wrong and look a bit lost. They just kept going long enough to improve.

That isn’t failure. That’s just what learning looks like.

You don’t need to pretend to be an expert at the start. You’re allowed to look like you’re learning.

What would you do if you weren’t worried about what people think?

Maybe having a few “notions” isn’t such a bad thing after all.

Confidence ≠ The Starting Point

It’s funny how often we’re told

“Just be more confident.”

As if confidence is something you can pop into the shop and pick up on the way home.

But is confidence really something we have at the start?

Or is it something we start building because we take the first step?

Every time you try something new, you’re giving yourself evidence that you can do difficult things. That’s how confidence grows. Not by waiting for it to appear, but by taking action.

Here’s something to ask yourself

What’s one thing you’ve been waiting to feel confident enough to do?

Maybe tomorrow is the day you take that first step.

Move yourself into action mode!

Then let your confidence catch up.

Strength ≠ Carrying Everything Quietly

Maybe we’ve been looking at this whole “being a strong person” thing all wrong.

Keeping it all in isn’t always the brave thing to do.

Sometimes the strongest words you can say are

“I’m having a bit of a hard time.”

It’s perfectly OK not to be OK.

Telling men to talk isn’t enough. It’s time to change what we believe strength actually looks like.

Thoughts ≠ Facts

Your brain is constantly trying to make sense of what’s happening around you.

The problem is. it doesn’t always get it right.

Sometimes it just fills in the blanks, creates a story and narrative that feels real enough for you to stop questioning it.

It’s important for us to challenge our assumptions!

Ask yourself:

“Do I know if this is true, or have I just decided for it to be true?”

Stop that thought from becoming a belief.

How you’re feeling isn’t always the whole story. Sometimes it’s just the first thing that gets your attention.

Stress was a focus in my walk and talk session earlier.

It seemed like the thing that needed all the attention, but after a little chat, it became clear that the stress was really only part of the picture.

If you keep getting headaches, it may be worth asking what’s causing them in the first place.

Little shifts in perspective can change how we understand what we’re experiencing.

What if guilt is just a bad sat nav sometimes? đŸ€”

Sometimes it points you in the right direction.

Sometimes it’s just recalculating because you’ve decided to go a different route.

That’s what today’s video is about.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Has guilt ever shown up simply because you were doing something different?
