Today is National Rainbow Baby Day.
A day to celebrate the babies who came after loss…
And remember every baby who made the word “rainbow” part of their mother’s story.
Because before the rainbow, there was a storm no mother should have ever had to survive.
There were positive tests that never became babies brought home.
Ultrasound rooms that were far too quiet.
Due dates that arrived without the baby.
Names chosen for someone we never got enough time with.
Entire futures imagined that disappeared in an instant.
A rainbow baby brings a kind of joy words could never explain.
But that joy doesn’t erase the grief that came before it.
One baby could never replace another.
Love doesn’t work that way.
You can be endlessly grateful for the baby in your arms while still aching for the baby who should be there too.
So today, we celebrate every beautiful rainbow.
We hold space for every mother still waiting in the storm.
And we remember every baby who was loved for a lifetime, no matter how briefly they stayed.
Today, I celebrate the baby I finally got to hold…
While remembering every baby I will always carry.
