You're closing a huge deal, nailing the presentation, doing the thing everyone said couldn't be done.

And somewhere in the back of your head: "when are they going to realise I'm not actually that good at this."

Your brain remembers threats louder than wins. Every time you struggled, that got flagged and filed as important. Every time you nailed it, filed away as normal, forgotten by lunch.

So your internal evidence is skewed before you even look at it. Not because you're not good. Because your memory kept score unfairly the whole time.

More promotions, more praise, none of it fixes this. You can't out-achieve a filing system that was never counting the wins in the first place.

The imposter feeling isn't proof of anything. It's just what a competence-blind memory sounds like.

Send this to the most capable person you know who still doesn't believe it.

BUSYBRAIN.IE
Exhausted all day. Can't focus. Running on empty.

Then 11 pm hits, and suddenly your brain is alive. Thoughts everywhere. Can't switch off.

This isn't insomnia. Your cortisol and melatonin cycles have basically inverted.

Cortisol - your alertness hormone - should taper off by evening. But if you've been stressed and overstimulated, it stays elevated. Blocks the melatonin. And your brain treats the quiet of nighttime as finally having space to process everything it didn't get to during the day.

You're not broken. Your nervous system is just dysregulated. 🧠

Follow - I explain this stuff a lot. Might answer a few things.

So why aren't you doing it?

This used to destroy me. Not because I was lazy - because I genuinely couldn't figure out why knowing something and doing something felt like completely different things.

Turns out they are. Knowing lives in your prefrontal cortex. Actually doing it requires your dopamine system to fire at the right moment. Those two things don't automatically talk to each other.

The gap isn't a character flaw. It's wiring. And it's fixable.

You left early. You planned ahead. You were actually going to be on time for once.

And somehow you're still late.

This isn't carelessness. Time blindness is a real neurological thing - and if your brain experiences time as "now" or "not now," you genuinely believed you had more time. Because your brain told you that you did.

Here's why the busy brain struggles with time 👇
